Default Removing the badges from the trunk on a 2006 LS460

Hi,

I'm looking to remove the 'Lexus' & 'LS460' badges from the trunk of my 2006 LS460 - and was wondering if there is anything i need to be aware of before i do this mod.

I take it the badges are just held on with adhesive?

Thanks

Pete

I believe the L badge will leave a hole but the other 2 won't. Hair dryer or heat gun, Goo Gone, small towel and gloves.

Thanks DarKnight,

Just wanted to make sure that removing the 'Lexus' & 'LS460' badges wouldn't leave holes

Cheers

I believe they're called register holes and you definitely want to research how many there are before your attempt to remove the lettering.

My LS400 had a bunch on the decklid so when I removed the gold emblems it was easy to line up the chrome replacements.

Why may I ask are you wanting to debadge the car?

Oh and a plastic razor. The hardest part is removing the adhesive after you've taken off the badges.

it's easier on a warm day also...
I use fishing line to remove most of the emblems and goo gone to remove the adhesive tape. then, you will need to use some rubbing compound and wax to clear away the "ghost emblem" left behind.

Seanl - I just prefer the badgeless look, i think it makes the rear look more tidy & uncluttered.

As noted by GR6RR, you may not be able to completely remove the "ghosting" left behind, especially as the car is ten years old.

Excellent point, and in fact when i de-golded my '97 LS 400 back in 2009, she was already 12 years old. Even after goo-gone and a few applications of Meguiar's Paint Cleaner/Wax there was some ghosting (in addition to half a dozen register holes). But I was always planning to install the std. chrome lettering, so it wasn't an issue for me. The worst case scenario for the OP is if you remove the badging and find a bunch of register holes...no real easy way to deal with that. The ghosting may or may not be an issue, but there will be some.

Pete, my advice to to let it go...it's not worth messing with. That's my 2 pence anyway.

How about a straight answer on this one?

If I replace the badging, do I have to deal with securing pegs, or just sticky tape?

RandyV - You'll just need sticky tape, There are no securing pegs on the back of the badges.

Hope this helps.

Here is a picture of a debadged 2008 LS460 (in Smoky Granite Mica) that I found on E-Bay. Looks pretty good IMO.
