I actually like the aesthetics of a nice set of gauges though, so that would be something I would miss in the LS500.

 

I'm starting to wonder if my issue with the styling is if maybe I just don't really care for the rims? Or I haven't seen a pic of one with the right set of rims (to my eyes)? Aren't there five choices?

Rims can make or break a car.

5 years later after owning, I still wish my LS had those 18" five spokes instead of the standard ones. The better rims make the otherwise stodgy (but elegant) design look much, MUCH better, from all angles.

 

I think id put up with a twin turbo'd camry motor for the styling of the concept....but for what, efficiency? That not a true concern at this price point.

but for the bland styling of what has been released, i really think a competitive drivetrain could have made up for it.

This is a new gen, with lexus's first stab at Twin Turbos and this new 10 speed trans, this just seems problematic.

And As for an LS-F. if it does happen and gets a v8. I don't have the confidence that lexus would make it to 550hp, or even 500hp for that matter...which considering ctsv, s8, amg and m-cars. It loses at the drawing board.

I hate to say it, but if the current engine offering is going to be the only offered, the LS will no longer be Lexus's flagship to me. That honor would go to the properly named forthcoming LC500.

Take the grill (that lexus introduced 4years ago) out of the equation. Where is the excitement?

The exotic look of the concept, oversold..reality under delivered (which is usually always the case).

 

The production car looks a lot like the concept, but toned down a bit. Ain't that always the case?

With the really wide grill and side "scoops" the 5LS, and to some extent, the 2013+ LS all have a look closer to a FWD car. In the concept the front wheels are placed much forward befitting a RWD car. The BMWs manage this look very well.

Where is the "excitement" in an S Class? In a 7 Series? Remember this is a flagship luxury sedan...its not an IS or NX...

I don't agree with this at all. The proportions of the 13+ LS are the same as every other 4LS, the car doesn't have FWD proportions at all. The 5LS has a longer nose after the front wheels so I could maybe see that argument, but not the 4LS.

 

I'm not sure why people are upset about the V6. All the other brands are offering a V6 TT such as the S400 and 7 series, maybe not every where but in my country they do. If the 5.0 V8 doesn't offer a huge improvement over the V6 then it is not needed. Hopefully Lexus refined the V6TT since I hate force injection engine due to the unrefined acceleration. Anyway Lexus should offer a V8 with 500 + Hp and torque since at this point who ever going to buy a luxury car that cost more than 100 K$ will not care about fuel efficiency compared to comfort, features and performance.

 

I'm not upset at the V6 per se, I'm just upset they didn't offer the option of a V8 for the same reason you mentioned above: the others do offer one.

I actually like the look, it seems great, just don't like that there isn't a V8 OPTION.

 

On the bright side, Safety and Service Connect will be included for 10 years.

 

They should have more closely followed the rear window and boot design of the prototype.
The prototype's rear quarter view looks much better IMO.

The six light window design of 5LS is too fussy, while the rising curvature at the base of the rear windows is too prominent.
The 5LS may be in for an early and major refresh to the rear quarter within 2.5 years IMO!
The 5LS' trunk and rear face doesn't have as nice a shape as the prototype.

The V6 TT is the new industry standard for full size luxury sedans, just as the 2.0 turbo four is the industry standard for compact luxury sedans.
I'm sure a V8 TT will come in time; TMC always takes longer to "refine" their products...

I'm sure President Akio does too.
However, it will be interesting to see how Akio's tastes in styling affects the sales of Prius, Camry, and 5LS etc...

Keeping in mind that sales really has NO effects on an individual buyer/owner/driver's enjoyment of his/her motor vehicle.
Sales only affects the bottom line [profits] of the large corporations, and it forces them to make changes eg soften 2016 6.5ES's suspension etc.

Likewise when Teslas are selling like hot cakes, and Prius and Mirai not doing well, then all of a sudden, President Akio heads the TMC EV team.
Thus, if competitors like S Class, 7 Series and A8 continue to sell well, while 5LS stagnates, then there will be major refreshes to the 5LS' rear quarter view.
You and I can't decide - only time can decide...

 

You can't compare the market for a Tesla and the market for a Prius or Mirai, the latter of which is basically only sold in CA. The Prius has always been strange, I don't think any sales decline has to do with styling. That segment just has a lot more options than it used to.

People are not choosing to buy $90,000 Teslas over Priuses.
