What non-Lexus vehicle did you cross-shop when you bought your LS?

About the cross-shopping. I didn't cross shop at all. I worked at Toyota, I worked at Hyundai. I saw the differences between the two. And the differences were LARGE. But I would say that even though my opinion of Hyundai is very low compared to Toyota (based on my experience working for both companies), that most Hyundai cars are better vehicles (long term durability) than most European vehicles. Not all, but most.
So, back to the large differences directly discerned having been an automotive design engineer at Toyota, it was love at first site for me with the LS 460. Knowing the intricacies of automobile companies, I had no desire to shop around ... for what ... more trouble than required? No thanks. The LS is, was, and always will be way more car than I need.

I was atthe Vancouver INternational Auto Show on Sunday and sat in the new Geness g90. Wow.....incredible. I am truly in love with that car. It is stunning. As for quality, I can say that it rivals ANYTHING out there now. I would not have said that two years ago when I sat in the Equus. This is a whole other level. If you haven't checked it out, do so. Knowing the stellar warranty will cover you for a good long time, only adds to the desire to look into getting one down the road. The G80 was equally sexy and also comes with the 5.0 engine option. A beast.

I actively searched for a 2004 or later Mercedes CL55 AMG. Drove a beat 2003, and even though it was neglected, it was still a super-solid Mercedes. Was actually on the way to see one in Dallas when my wife insisted we stop at a place I've known about/visited since the early-90s, Texas Cars Direct. They gave me the keys and said, "take your time and enjoy it"..
Could of gotten it for peanuts too, like $12k with 80 000 miles , but way too many issues with the coil packs and suspension to pull the trigger
Bought a vette instead

The best car for the money, in my opinion, would be turning a generation 4 A8 L into an S8 with a tune and downpipes. Actually faster then the stock S8. Tuning the supercharged 3.0 or the twin turbo 4.0 open up tremendous power. Both engines are great. The joys of forced induction and well built engines. APR is the industry leader. Check them out. Your luxury sedan that can run a 11 second 1/4 mile on 93 octane. I really like my A8 L. What a pleasure it is to drive. Best German luxury sedan.

Ran Back To Lexus
I shopped Cadillac and Chrysler as I needed a heavy AWD sedan. Coming from a '04 LS 430 was super underwhelmed on the quality both inside and under the hood. Wound up buying Infiniti FX35 but within a month knew I wanted to go back to Lexus. The Infiniti did some things pretty well and i had no problems with it but overall quality wasn't in the same ballpark.

I was looking at the Genesis G80 and the Kia Cadenza. Both would have been new and on lease. I was leaning toward the G80 between the two. If money weren't a factor, I would have also been looking at an Audi A7. All in all..... super happy with my 2011 sport model.

I shopped between A8L and LS460 AWD. Needed AWD since i'm in mideast. Decided on lexus for reliability, long term ownership and i have a toyota dealer ~30 miles from me as supposed to nearest audi dealer ~140 miles out. I have a toyota sienna anyway. Do wish i got more power on the lexus tho, but still, exceedingly happy with the ride and silence.
