Every vehicle I've owned (cars and motorcycles) oil level was checked when warm.

You know I've never checked it when it's cold. It's too late to do it today, I'll try to remember to check it tomorrow morning and see what the difference is.

The only thing I check cold is my tire pressure.

Oil should be checked when cold. If checked when hot, it will show lower level for several reasons. Mobil 1 recommends checking when cold as well.
