Rust on metal brace
#61
You know it's funny but I never even noticed the ****. I was only under there because I was trying to plug a scan tool into the data link connector (I was checking the tranny temp for the fluid fill level).

Fixed!
Hello ccbcc, thanks for the update. Great to hear your dealer is going to replace these rusted parts. Your steering linkage looks especially bad and that may have convinced them to replace all the pieces. I will definitely take this up with my dealer soon.
Paul, when an internal piece in a flagship car shows so much rust, superficial or not, it is certainly noteworthy. If a piece looks this bad in a 2-3 year old car, I don't want to wait to see how much worse it can get. I am glad ccbcc's dealer is being proactive about it. I am hopeful my dealer will also come thru.

Thanks, ccbcc. I should report this problem soon to my dealer. It's out of sight and out of mind! Although my car is only about 3 years old (mfg date 11/2013), it has 55K, so I have a feeling Lexus won't be so generous. I will give it a shot.

Also noticed some rust on mine too. I have a 2013 with 37k that has always been a NY car. I see one instance of someone mentioning this to the dealer and getting what seems like a goodwill repair. Anyone else have a conversation with their dealer about this rust - curious the hear what the dealer feedback was.

Yeah, my St. Louis dealer looked at it. The SA said it's superficial rust and to not worry. If it's a structural brace, it could be a lot of work to replace. I am not sure I would want my car to be torn apart for that.

I have a 2015 with more rust than yours -- see the pictures.
I took two photos after reading your post. I knew that the rust on that brace a week after the car was bought in 2016. It did not concern me that much, thinking that it may be "normal". Today I looked around when taking photos and discovered that a piston-like (see the 2nd pic -- is it struts?) support is full of rust too.
It seems that Lexus cuts corner in places that are invisible in daily operation. The car is still under the original warranty, and we will take it to our local dealership asap.

My 2012 MB has close to no rust on it under the vehicle, and certainly 0 rust in this area. (as in zero) - I just took apart this area to fix a laser jammer install on my car. I'm surprised there's this much rust on a Lexus! We use wayyyy more salt than in areas like NYC.
