Default The Toyota brakes had to go!!

So when I first purchased my car I immediately noticed how violently it brakes. I literally touch the brake pedal and you can just feel a huge jolt in the cabin. **Everybody's neck snaps forward**. However its been times when i needed to slam on the brakes in emergency situations and they perform better than any vehicle I've driven in. But driving as a daily driver required too much concentration just to slow down at a smooth rate. The jerkiness was annoying. Not sure if its only my brakes that were like that but thats my experience with them.

A friend of mine linked me up with a mechanic at a lexus dealership. This guy does side work and agreed to bless my car with whatever I bought so I picked up...

Centric Rotors Front/Rear 120.44148/120.44149
Centric Post Quiet Front/Rear 105.12820/105.12830
Also picked up 8 of the OEM spark plugs. Look at the price

**Its now been 1 month since the brake job. The guy charged quite a bit for labor, off the strength that he knows best how to repair these cars since he does it daily for a living in a Lexus dealership. So all in all I ended up paying $818 for parts and labor. Still less than half of the $2,000 the dealer wanted for the same brake job including the changing the spark plugs.

I felt no change from the spark plugs but at least I know they are done at 91K. BUT THE BRAKES?!?!? MAANNNNNNNNNN LISTEN!!!! This is how I imagined this car to ride. It stops so smoothly. I can now rest my foot on the pedal with no jolting reactions or vibrations to the cabin...The car truly feels like a airplane. Funny think is they still manage to have the same stopping power of the originals. I love these brakes. They really make driving my LS a pleasure. No Rotor Vibrations!! Not even at high speeds!!

If you are planning to do brakes in the near future $240.74 for Brakes and Rotors. If you have the time and the knowledge to do it yourself. This car is very reasonable to maintain for its stature.

Well said and I agree, the brakes are "touchy" when stock, but man can they stop. They've saved my life more than once. The only problem I find is when I drive another car because wow! It's a huge - and dangerous - adjustment period. I'm serious, I automatically assume other cars can stop like my LS and they just can't...as I'm holding on for dear life when the car isn't slowing down like I'm used to. Scary.

Glad you like them. My brake thread makes the same observations from anyone that switched. Smooth and linear braking and no grab/jolt. Did you get the Premium Centric rotors or the regular ones? Hopefully the Premiums, as they have a lot more in their design including, E-Coating, double disc ground, fully machined finish, center split casting, mill balanced as well as G3000 gray iron material spec.

Your observations about the spark plugs are consistent with others who've done this job. But as you say, it's done and you probably will never have to do it again.

Absolutely got the premium! I love the coating they put on the parts that usually rust. It was definitely a nice touch!

Was the LS maintained by a Lexus dealership? Did you run the Vin on Lexus Driver? The Spark Plugs should have been changed about 30k back at around 60K. I agree I noticed no difference when I had mine changed. It makes no since to change a 100K spark plug at 60K. The dealership will tell you that your emission warranty is voided if you do not change them at the recommended mileage.

The braking difference is really huge, I have the same setup on my car.

You have the exact same setup for your 2015?

My car is almost 40k miles, and I'm looking to change out the rotors and pads. Thanks.

Hi Kuhan, Steve can confirm when he responds to your question about his 2015. I just made the same swap for our 2013 and the part numbers are identical to the OP. I punched in our year and model at rockauto.com and proceeded to purchase and install the following parts (ours is SWB RWD):

CENTRIC 10512830
CENTRIC 10512820
CENTRIC 12044149(2)
CENTRIC 12044148(2)

It was about $260 for parts and $260 for labor at my mechanic. According to my mechanic, the Centric parts are more expensive than OEM but I feel they're worth it. Interestingly, my mechanic's supplier charges more for the Centric parts and so it was cheaper for me to order it myself and have him install it.

So glad to have found this forum, for many reasons, and the Centric recommendation is spot on. Stock brakes are way too grabby/sensitive and makes it difficult to drive smoothly. The Centric brakes make a world of difference and eliminate the "all or nothing" sensation that the OEM setup had.

Same here I did mine last fall and made a world of difference. The hardest part was looking for a bolt in my parts bin the right size to pop the rotors off with out hammering them off.

yep, make sure they are the centric premium rotors and the position quiet ceramic pads. I only did my fronts, my rears are stock and everything feels great now.

Thank you very much. I wasn't sure because my car is AWD.

Thank you! My LS is AWD so I wanted to confirm with you since yours is also AWD.

Yep, make sure you get the ones for the AWD, they are different. The fronts are side specific while they aren't for the RWD.

My wife's 4runner does the same when the brakes are applied, my only complaint.

The spark plug interval changes depending on the year. Some say 60k others say 120k or something like that. My 2007 doesn't have the spark plugs as part of the 60k service for example.
