I'm looking for a comfortable ride, not performance. The LS 430 has 17 inch wheels and is the most comfortable riding car I have ever owned.

No, the brake rotors are too big.

Have you driven the LS460 on the 18s? The sidewall is the same height as the 17s on your 430. The 460 rides on 235/50/18s, the 50% aspect ratio of that tire is 117.5 MM. The LS460 rides on 225/55/17s, the 55% aspect ratio of that tire is 123.75 MM. The sidewall height is what matters, wheel size doesn't matter. So the 430s 17 tires are only 6.25 MM fatter than the 460s 18 tires. That's about a 1/4 inch, not enough to have an impact.

The tires are hugely important too, the stock tires are terrible. I was surprised how big an impact going to better tires had on the ride. Also, tire pressure, your 430 had lower recommended pressures. Carmakers recommend higher pressures today for fuel economy, I run mine at 31 cold (recommended is 33), and that too had an impact. No adverse wear.

My LS rides like a dream on the 18s and Pirelli Conturato P7 tires aired to 31 cold, and I also had a 430 on 17s.

I think if you are careful with tire selection (don't cheap out) and run the pressures at 33 (dealers for some reason inflate them into the high 30s which really hurts ride quality) you should find the ride in the 460 is comparable to your 430.

I see you have a 2016 LS460. Most of these came with 19" wheels.
