The 2017 LS 460 will be the last super reliable luxobarge

Those mileage estimates are way low. A well maintained Lexus V8 should be able to last WAY beyond 200k miles. WAY beyond. 1M+ miles.
Any modern engine can last 200k+

I would expect the V6 to last much longer than that, it's pretty rare for a modern engine engine that's been maintained to not last more than 200,000 miles (with ease). Even if it does have turbos. I can see maybe the turbos failing at 120,000, but the engine? No. And a decent V8 that's well maintained I would think could last close to 400,000 before it got to the point where it consumes so much oil that it needs to be rebuilt.

Well, I'm sure the Lexus TTV6 won't be driven like a Formula 1 car! My main concern with losing 2 cylinders would be the potential loss of smoothness and refinement in a luxury car like the LS. Let's see if Lexus do, in fact, bring out a V8 LS500 after the initial introduction.

The V8 won't be an LS500. If that were their plan the V6 would have been the LS400 leaving room for the LS500 V8 above that.
It'll be the LS-F same as the GS. Mark my words.

I agree, a well maintained well built Japanese or American V8 should last around 300K miles if not longer without a major overhaul. European V8's, particularly a Italian V8, that is a whole different story.

The "V8 is better thing" is mostly perception, most people who could afford these cars are people in the 40+ year old range (as we are talking spending $75K + on a car). When we all grew up, the cars that were on the market were 4, 6 and 8 cylinder motors. No fancy electronic stuff (70's and 80's cars). In that time, more cylinders means more HP and better performance. This is still dragging out today. Things you learned as a teen, is still stuck in your brain today. It's just part of life and human nature. The younger buyers are hearing what the older people are saying and joining in on the v8 group.
When it comes down to it, it's about power and performance (the numbers game so to speak). On a LS, it's also about the smoothness and the luxury aspect (being quiet). When you talk about Toyota's top engineers designing a motor that has more HP than a v8 with the refinement that could only be in a Lexus LS in a v6, it could be VERY impressive and most people complaining about the "v8" will say....what "v8" ?
I also am on the "v8 or bust train" but, when it really comes down to it, with the numbers and performance, it might actually be the best motor ever put in a LS.
Some food for thought.

The V6 in an entry level $40,000 ES shared with Toyotas and the new TTV6 in the $90,000+ LS500 will be entirely different. I would not let your experience with the ES color your expactations for the LS500 at all.

Granted, it's a commercial-chassis Freightliner, but still. :-)

From the OP in the LS500 forum LOL:
Quite the contrast to his original post in this thread:
And a day later:
Apparently we all must now LOL.
A complete 180 in 4 days lol, impressive.
All kidding aside, this will be the theme you'll see. In the end, not a whole lot of people are going to care about the TTV6 vs the V8.

A friend of mine has put about 85,000 miles on his '05 Maserati Quattroporte and it's been completely reliable, it even still has the original clutch – the secret is that it's his daily driver, and he rarely uses auto mode and doesn't upshift below 4000 RPM. Haha the only signs that it was handbuilt by Italians are a loose trim panel and a loose upshift paddle
