I have done this ^^^ on a Dodge Charger and it looked great!
The chrome paint (not really shiny chrome) will work and looks very close to the original silver paint on the bezel...... Check out www.alsacorp.com for this paint and take your time masking the area then applying LIGHT coats. You should experiment on a piece of cardboard or paper to make sure you like the match PRIOR to masking and painting.

BEST bet, bring the car by an auto repair shop to get an estimate. On my old LS430, over by the navi screen was really bad, looked like someone almost scrapped off the paint, it actually looked beyond bad but, the car itself was in great shape and very clean (low miles at that time). The guy who was selling the car (small dealer) also owned a paint shop. He said he would fix it. I said if it came out great, I would buy it....anyway about it, it came out PERFECT, like a brand new car. A good paint guy can do anything sometimes.

Or 2nd, keep an eye on ebay, you might pay $300+ for it (pulled from a totaled car) but, it will be cheaper than a new one..

Don't even waste your time, it will have the same problem that all the other factory trim pieces have.

did find some info out. you can just replace the trim part. found a place that sells new for 500.94. that means it can be removed and painted.

If anyone has ever tried successfully to remove that trim piece, please let us know how it was done. Once removed, it should be easy to repaint.

You can also cover the strip with vinyl. They make all kinds of vinyl now to include imitation brushed aluminum, chrome, etc.

Watch some you tube videos to see the techniques for install. May be easier than taping, painting.

The trim can be removed and replaced separately. I did it for my 2008. 2010-2012 has a different part number of course
Details here, It does take a fair amount of time to remove the trim. It DOES NOT JUST POP OFF.
