Default What's that plate behind the brake

does anyone know what the heck is the plate behind the brake? Looks like it's wreck.

It's a brake dust shield.

It's called a backing plate, it designed to channel air flow to the backside of the rotor to keep it cool. Often times these things get destroued over the years due to road salt, it's not unusual to see them rust right off the car.
