Go from LS430 to LS460?
I currently have a 2005 LS 430 with 132,000 miles that my wife and I love. We bought it used from a Lexus dealer almost 2 years ago.
After seeing a 2013 LS 460 with saddle interior, 42,200 miles at $36,600 for sale I'm getting the bug to buy it if I can work out a decent price for a trade-in.
I'm understanding that after 2010 the bugs have been worked out of the LS460?

Have you test driven the 460 or looked up its service history, tradosauru? It is a worthwhile upgrade, IMHO. We went from an '06 with 65K miles to a '13 with 70K miles and absolutely no regrets! They are both great cars and some things the 430 still does better (mainly overall seat comfort and the fantastically bright and broad spread of the headlights on the 430). Our 460 with 19" and air suspension rides better than the 430 with 18" non-air, both same Pirelli P7+ tires. What attracts you to the 2013? Again, both great vehicles but, as been mentioned before by others, different personalities. Hoping to hear of more details and following what you ultimately decide to do. Post-2010 does seem to exhibit less issues but also depends on what options the car has. Best of luck to you.

Lots of folks on here have made that transition (including myself, although I went with a 2010). The interior upgrade is really substantial and would be even more so on a 2013. The interior in the 4th Gen will make you realize how out-dated the 430 interior is in today's world. I miss the engine of my 430 (and my 400). Specifically I miss how quiet the engine is in the 430, especially when you're stopped at a light. In my 430 I could not hear the engine even when I had my music turned off and the car was eerily still - I loved that. You hear it more on the 460, though it's still substantially quieter than other cars. Other than that, I really don't have any regrets. I think I overlooked how long overdue I was for the upgrade- I kept my 430 almost 9 years and it had 250k on the odometer when I traded it in. I randomly ended up with a LWB and really like having the extra space in the back. I feel my 460 rides better at all speeds than my 430 did - my 430 had the 18" 5 stars and my 460 has the 19" 5 stars so I've gone up on wheel size in the 460 and still think it rides better.
If it checks out with maintenance history and appears to be free of any major damage, I'd give it serious consideration. Glad to see the prices of '13's coming down. I bought in February and there was about a $10k premium for a '13 over a '12. Seems like that is narrowing a bit.

I was just looking at this '05. It's a 45-min drive from me, so I haven't checked it out in person, but it looks great for its age - http://www.sjmotortrends.com/2005-Le...0/Details.aspx

I think the 2013 refreshed LS460 is the best used car value on the market. A dependable vehicle with a beautiful interior and exterior (in my opinion).

I saw this one when I was shopping for mine. I almost went to go see it but I found some closer to me with more mileage in better exterior and interior condition for a lesser price. I would highly suggest www.cargurus.com to see what else is out there. I found mine on there and so glad I was pointed to that site. But this one looks in good shape except for a few exterior blemishes, but thats to be expected with its age.

Both are great cars. We still have one of each and I did not drive the LS430 much until the past year or so. When I do drive the LS460 (not that often) I do miss the 430's smooth ride and quieter engine.
The interior on the 460 is definitely an upgrade and has more bells and whistles but I do not really miss them when I drive the 430.....
Coin flip..... An '05 430 still has a lot to give but if you get the bug for a newer car a '13+ 460 is a good alternative...

Well worth the upgrade. 430s are pretty ancient now, the 460 is a little more dynamic, 430 engine is quieter as others have said, ride I think they're pretty similar, 430 might be a hair softer but handling it's really a pig compared to the 460. 460 is quieter on the road.
Of my 3 LSs, I had a 400, a 430 and now a 460 the 430 was my least favorite. Not that I disliked it, it was a great car. I just think the 400 and 460 have more to them, the 430 is a little one dimensional. The 460 is more rewarding to drive IMHO on roads that aren't a flat straight highway.

We need to make this a sticky.
I went from a 2005 LS430 Ultra Luxury to a 2007 LS460 and could not be possibly happier. While on paper the 460 does not seem that much faster, a number of car magazines have pointed out that this has to do with the tall 1st gear.
I will say that the build quality on the 430 is most likely a touch better as it is a direct descendent of the billion Dollar in development LS400 AKA Project F1. That said, the 460 is an exceedingly well made car and at this point, the 430 has been on the market for 15 years,
And while the 460 has been around now for a decade, at least for the next few months, it is still the current flagship. I also happen to massively prefer the front end treatment on the 2007-2012.
I would spend some more time checking out Auto Trader and the usual suspects as $36,000 is pretty strong albeit not a terrible price provided there are no holes in the service history nor accident history. Love the saddle interior.
Personally, I would try to track down a 2010 LS460 Sport.

I can't blame anyone for considering that move. I still think the 430 looks great though. If it were trouble free, I would have a hard time letting go of it. As for the speed of the 460, I just can't believe how fast the car is. I may take it to a dragstrip just to put my curiosity to bed. I'm wondering if with my rather large body (235 pounds) in it, if I can hit 13.9 seconds. It should be close to that time.
I took my Plymouth Scamp to the dragstrip a few weeks ago. It has a sick (as in not running well) 360 cubic inch (5.9L) in it. At that time, it wouldn't even touch the 460. The 460 would blow it away. Even with a 5.9L and a perfect tune, they may run neck and neck. But the Scamp has zero finesse to it at any rpm, and not nearly as broad a range of power. All this to say, the 460 is amazing at how much power it makes and over the broad spectrum that it makes it. The 460 is also probably 1,500 pounds heavier than the Scamp. It is quite a vehicle.
