Default To Flush Or Not To Flush

Have a 08 LS 460 with only 56K miles. What is the consensus when it comes to transmission flush, should I flush at a Lexus dealership or
simply do 2 or 3 drain and fills over time. Also, should I replace the transmission filter at the same time with a fresh new gasket?.

Appreciate any input...

Unless you are having problems with the transmission, I wouldn't touch it.

However if you do want it serviced, I would have it done at a Lexus dealership, unless you have complete trust in another service facility. I can't imagine any such facility would reuse a gasket.

Flushing can loosen deposits in the transmissioon which can wreak havoc with the solenoids. However, I think that is quite rare. Problem is, they are the ones you hear about.

I've mentioned this MANY times, but will reiterate. In any other country other than the US, the manual specifically states that transmission fluid changes are required.....both for warranty and general maintenance. In Canada, that is 96k kms (about 50k miles). HOWEVER, this does NOT mean a trans "flush". Just a trans drain and fill using Techstream. My Toyota dealer does this for about 149 dollars.

It probably should be mentioned that most modern transmission "flush" machines are simply fluid exchangers. The problems exist when cleaning additives are added to the exchange or when there is fluid contamination (various fluid types used in the same machine). Other than that they safely exchange all the fluid, which is great if the correct fluid is used. The whole process takes maybe ten minutes once the machine is hooked up, you are only adding what is removed, an equal exchange. Now maybe there could be a concern that exchanging all - however many quarts a vehicle takes - introduces too much new fluid, with too many cleaning properties in that new fluid...and it may loosen up varnish, etc, but when you're talking about a car with low mileage? I've never seen a problem occur.

Or you could do just simple drain and fills once a year or whatever. But a "flush" isn't exactly the sinister event that the earlier techniques (cleaners, conditioners, additives, unicorn dust) anymore. It's just a way of getting all the fluid out and replacing all of it, at once.

I would do the drain and fill for piece of mind. I did it on my IS-F at 50k, the fluid didn't come out red like the fluid that I was replacing it with. So obviously the fluid was getting broken down. The IS-F and LS460 both have 8-spd transmissions, that's a lot of gears to be banging through especially if you use your car daily. Just my two cents.

ONLY if you know for sure the machine they use has Lexus/Toyota factory transmission fluid, and ONLY if you know for sure they will follow to the T the refill process to ensure the correct fluid level at the correct fluid temperature.

I wouldn't be afraid to do a flush, I did one at Lexus with 180k on my GS460, first time it had ever been changed and had no issues, 50k you should be more than safe.

This is probably the main reason why I don't trust those machines, they always have other fluid stuck in them, and that's what's being exchanged into your car. You'd think a Lexus dealer would have the WS tranny fluid in it, but I guess you never know. I know guys that own their own shops and they swear they use all the factory fluids, but the problem is the machine always holds 3-4 quarts of whatever was in it during the last flush.
