Default Tire Pressure Monitors

I have a 2008 LS 460, need new tires shortly. I am the second owner but never seen the tire pressure monitors replaced on the very detailed service record from past maintenance Lexus service records.

Should I replace all 5 Tire pressure monitors when I replace the tires since the car is 9 years old?.

They say the TPMS batteries last 7-10 years but I think thats an average lifespan. If yours haven't failed yet, they probably have a few more years in them. They can be fairly expensive to replace all 5, although you won't be paying for mounting and balancing again when they finally go out. But I'd risk it if it were me.

I'd just replace them as they die.

I agree with you Roadfrog, generic lifespan is from 7-12 years according to a google search. Will replace all 5....It's about 200$ online.

Default My timing must be spot-on

Because with the LS and the '05 STS prior to it, the sensors dying and giving instrument cluster warnings was also an indicator the tires were just about done for.

I noticed just yesterday how my LF is almost at the wear bars near the outer edge. On the way home, _ding!_ Your tire pressure monitor requires service.

I think that's just co-incidence.

One of the sensors on my '07 with ~82k miles started dying earlier this year. Since I was getting new tires, I had all five sensors replaced at the same time. I had it done at Costco - the price for the sensors were $45 apiece with installation covered under the new tire replacement, otherwise I would have to had to pay an additional $70 for installation.

Did they use OEM replacements? There are some pretty cheesy "compatible replacement" sensors out there!

I'd replace them all right now, you'll pay more later...never mind the aggravation of dealing with them as they all start to fail individually.

The sensors that were installed by Costco were: Redi-Sensor 7002A

Since they were installed and warrantied by Costco, they will cover any premature failures of the sensor. I have over 5K miles on them now and have not had any issues whatsoever.

Another reason to replace all five senors at the same time is that when a sensor fails, the dashboard warning message is very obnoxious (I don't remember the exact message, but it is constantly displayed along with a few dash-board lights).
