Default iPhone 7 plus and Bluetooth connection for music

Hi all:

I hate to have to ask this question , but I can't find the answer on previous posts or through apple:

my new 7 plus connects just fine for phone connectivity, but when a I try to do the same for music, it won't connect.

When I attempt the connection on bt for music, it says connecting but then drops the process.

If if anyone can help, I would be grateful.

Thanks

Cubby

Hi Cubby Lex, make sure BT is turned ON in your iPhone. When you go to the BT panel on the phone, do you see a device called "CarMultiMedia"? If you don't , then you haven't set up the phone to be recognized by the car's BT system. You will have to set up the car to recognize the iPhone as a portable player in the same way you set up the phone.

When you select BT Audio as a source on the car's Nav Screen, you will be prompted to connect your iPhone, and the system should guide you. If it attempts to connect but drops, then something's wrong. Make sure your phone is NOT hooked up to the USB port in the car as you do this. If it is connected thru the cigarette lighter port, that's OK. Hope this helps. Good luck!

What year is your car bud?

BT audio connectivity is built in only after the 2010 model year.
Any model before that and you'll need to purchase and add an aftermarket module to have that capability.

Default Thanks for help

Thanks for the responses so far, however, I forgot to state I have a 2010 with Mark Levinson, nav, parking etc sound system.

Comotiger, I did try with cable attached but will not do so when I try today. Thanks for your help.

Also, my car was manufactured in 10/09 so I am hoping it will eventually work. Thanks dfkd for your help.

If BT Audio shows up as a selectable source in your Media menu, you should be able to connect without issues. But based upon dfkd's answer and your car's build date, you may not have BT Audio option. Fingers crossed 🤞 !!

Well, I tried several times and I can't get it to work for music. Apparently, mine is not set up to handle the Bluetooth for other than phone.

Thanks for your help and recommendations

2010 was the first year for both BT phone and BT audio. For the 2010/11/12 years you needed to
1) pair the phone 2) transfer the contacts (optional but recommended) and 3) pair the audio.

Press hard key "Menu" and open Bluetooth. Pair phone. Open Contacts, transfer contacts.
Open Audio, pair device. Note: you can pair up to four(4) phones and up to two (2) devices,
your phone will be one of each. Lexus models starting in 2013 will pair both phone and audio
plus transfer contacts all in one pairing! Also supports Siri Eyes Free if using an Apple device.

Ok, let me see if I can explain what is happening:

When I went to audio, BT I selected the connect button. It shows connecting then says failed to connect.

I then went to phone and it shows BT connected. I went to setup and the car shows that my phone is selected as a portable device. However, when I select the BT soft button on screen, nothing shows up.

I turned off BT on phone, did a soft reset on the phone turned all back on, hooked up phone to BT and it connected. Car still shows my phone as a portable device, but still no icons for music, etc as it shows in the manual.

The only thing I can think of now is to have it checked when I go in for next service.

Ya'll have been helpful with suggestions and comments. I did re-read the manual to make sure I was understanding each of your comments and it should connect and work, but not the case.

Thank ya'll again for your help.

Well, this really takes the cake!

I decided to try my old iPhone 6 plus to try the connection. Guess What?

It works! all of the BT features work just fine with music.

So I will have to get the 7 plus checked out and maybe replaced because that part won't connect with car system.

Who would have thought, right?

Once again, thanks for all who offered up help and suggestions.

I can't imagine the 7 not being able to connect. Did you try deleting the saved profile in the vehicle, restart the phone, and starting over?

That's great news, CubbyLex! I am sure it's a relief to know your car has the BT audio option. It's certainly odd that the 7+ has difficulty connecting while the 6+ doesn't. LexusLSGuy's suggestion is good. Delete the iPhone7's profile on the car. Similarly, delete the CarMultimedia profile on the 7+. Power down the phone and start over. Do you have the same iOS version on both phones? Do you have another 7+ to test? If you have tried all these things and still came up short, then there is something wrong. However, it's unlikely something is severely wrong with your 7+ to justify replacement.

Hi again

i did a total reset on iPhone 7plus but did not delete it from car yet. Will do that and try again.

I did contact store where I got iPhone and they suggested going to apple and have a diagnostics done to determine if phone is issue. If the delete and re-add doesn't work, I will make appt with Apple to be sure.

Once again, thanks for all your input and suggestions.

If you have a Lexus dealer close by, their "technology specialist" should be able to pair your phone. It just appears to be some setting in your iphone 7.

Great news, CubbyLex! It's surprising but good to know that the phone was defective. Happy motoring!
