Default What is Lexus lamipane?

I have. 2014 LS460 and recently had to replace the windshield. The new replacement windshield was described as:rainsensor - heated - solar - hydrophobic COA. Is that the same as Lamipane?

First, you are in the wrong forum. However, Lamipane is nothing more than a trade name of Nippon Sheet Glass. It is just their laminated glass. There are many other companies that make good windshield glass. Pittsburgh Glass Works is one I see often. You will likely be fine.

Why is ladycarol on the wrong forum? They have a 2014 LS 460 is that not a 4th Gen LS? Is this not the forum where we welcome new Club Lexus LS 460 members who have questions? Have we all done the complete search thing to make sure we are at the right place? Ok it is her first post so let's try and be a little more I don't know let's say a little less like Jane's friend what was his name?

Because this was posted in the SC 430 forum not the LS and was moved by the moderator. Did I not try to explain the situation to her?

Yes, you did explain it to her. To anyone else though , it wasn't obvious that the post had been in SC 430 Forum. I read the situation the same way as DJWLWD. That's what I get for assuming!

Yes you did explain the situation to her and thank you for pointing out the finer points of the type of glass Lamipane is.

Hopefully, she will be able to get an OEM windshield. That said, I shudder to think just how expensive it is. Still, have not come across many aftermarket windshields that are not a pretty large downgrade when talking about upper tier cars to begin with. UV and so forth..

I have had three windshields replaced over the years. One each in an ES, RX and SC430. All were done with PGW. (Pittsburgh Glass Works) This is the new PPG. (Pittsburgh Plate Glass). All have been identical to the original. I have had no problems with any of them. Other than the logo, you would not be able to tell the difference. I was given the choice of Lexus glass for about $400.00 out of pocket. Safelite tech said there is no difference and my experience has confirmed that. At least with PGW.

I am really glad they have worked out for you. I will only say that most, if not all are against the practice. Mercedes is strongly against and urges customers not to use aftermarket. I will certainly grant you that of course there is profit potential.

My biggest concern is whether or not the aftermarkets contain a UV film. After switching up the upper tier Japanese cars about 10 years ago, I could not believe the difference in hear rejection. I took it one step further when I lived in SW Florida and got Huper Optik for my Infinti M45. The stuff is amazing. I had major apprehensions about doing so as they are just not my style, but I do not even think I know a local who does not have tinted windows. It is 20% there which is close to limo cars. Some Northern States practically make you use clear film.

I will only speak for myself, but when car shopping, along with the quality of tires on the used car is whether or not it has a factory windshield. Might not make sense to some, but it has worked for me.
