Default 08 LS 460 left me stranded

My 08 LS 460 left me stranded last night. Car has power but only grinds and clicks when trying to start. It actually continues doing that until I push the start button again, then it stops.
Milage is 170,000. Bought it used about a year ago with about 150,000 miles. Car was running smooth, but I did notice a slight hesitation in the engine when a stop.
Anyway, I did a bit of looking up and and could not find much. I’ll be scanning the codes tomorrow and I’m hoping it’s nothing major besides the starter.
Does anyone have any experience with installation? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Your right about the dramatic part. Do you know where the starter is located or how to get it swapped? Any help would do.

that sounds like a starter issue. The starter is positioned kind of hard to get to.

Have you checked the battery? It may have enough juice to power accessories, but not to start the car. It's worth having it tested before replacing a starter.

Have you checked the battery? I'd certainly start there. Have you tried to jump start it from another car and jumper cables?

Always start with the battery, though in this case, I would suspect the starter. If it is the starter, your in for a treat (not really).....it's a biotch to get at. The starter is inexpensive, but labor (if you pay someone to do it), will be pricey with the standard being 6 hrs. For a start, the front part of the exhaust needs to be removed (inc the manifold), as well as the stabilizer bar and suspension reinforcement member. There's more, but that's the bulk of it.

Will try jumping with cables, or replacing the battery.

Is there any “how to” on the forum? Thinking of trying it myself and saving some mula for the holidays.

Most of the parts shops (AutoZone, etc) will load test your battery at no charge, then install a new one at no charge.

I feel better in an Ls460 with a timing chain vs my previous LS430 with a Timing belt. One mishaps or bad timing belt install and the engine is gone. That was always in the back of my mind.

My LS wouldn't start at all a couple of years ago and left me stranded at the grocery. Luckily a friend of mine lived nearby and was able to help me jump the car. If you can do that, head over to a place like AutoZone. They offer 3 types for our car. I went with the middle version. They put it in on the spot. So, see if you can jump the car. If so, head on over to an auto store.

My '07 had the same noise when the starter went bad. It was really strange noise and not one I had heard on any other car when the starter went.

Did you have normal power all over? My engine never turns, the car just clicks then has a whining grinding sound when pressing the start button.
The whining stops as soon as I press the start button again.
