Never heard this about labels before. Perhaps reading this will put your mind at ease.

I've always used Mobil 1.

I think people are confusing synthetic blend with synthetics that aren't group 4 synthetics, but are instead hydrocracked laboratory generated oils designed to meet "full synthetic" specs. I'd take the hydrocracked group 3 oil over the synthetic blend oil any day of the week. Sure a group 4 is "better" compared to a group three who's molecules have been engineered to look like group 4's, but it's still better than conventional oil and the additives they are adding to the oil are going to make that oil last a long time. I have no problem buying Mobil 1 or Penzoil...or any of the other oils that are not boutique group 4 expensive oils, that's are going to be mixed with byproducts of combustion anyway as soon as you start your car. Buy whatever is on sale, check your oil level regularly and change it when the manufacturer tells you to.

Since Lexus says that my car needs an oil change every 5K miles, I have been faithfully changing oil and filter at the 5K miles interval with Castrol full synthetic 0W-20 oil. However, my Lexus maintenance manual says 5W-20 oil is also OK. Some 5W-20 oils are blend synthetic. Given my 5K mile short oil change interval, I wouldn't lose sleep if I used 5W-20 blend synthetic oil. In fact, I used 5W-30 non-synthetic oil on my ES for 12 years and 130K miles with a 5K mile oil change interval. The engine runs still like new, not burning any oil. It seems that what matters more is to change the engine oil regularly than what type of oil is used, if the oil change interval is short.

Default Correct interval

For a 99 Rx what is the correct interval for Dino oil? I’ve had a 99 Rx300 and an 07 Rx350 and I’ve always had my oil changed at 3750. Can I go longer? I am getting ready to buy a 99 Rx....
