2008 Ls460L Warranty Or not?
I just recently purchased a 2008 Lexus LS 460 l registered the car on Lexus appears to have every 5000 mile service recommended performed at 5000 miles or very close to the vehicle was a corporate owned vehicle and is in very good condition doesn't appear to have any issues this is my first Lexus and I don't know too much about them except for the research I have done seems to be very reliable vehicles my question to you all is it worth purchasing extended warranty for roughly $4,000 for 3 years 36,000 miles and cover engine, trans, alternator, a/c, and some suspension or is it something that I should not worry about the vehicle has just hit 80,000 miles?

You'd be spending $4,000 for 36,000 miles of driving, so figure you'll have to have over a thousand dollars of repairs every ten thousand miles or so. That's ridiculous. As long as you can find a half decent independent repair facility you should be more than fine. That's just my opinion.

If you can cut that down $3k~$3.5k range, it might not be bad.
Check your history to see if the control arms were replaced. If not, that's few thousand right there. Radio lights going out. Dash/door panel might crack/melt also.
Not sure if those will be covered under warranty, but if they are, I would buy it. Brake actuators are $3k+ by itself.
I am normally against extended warranties, but this is one car at 100k+ miles that I am scared of. I have ~85k miles right now. I wouldn't mind pay $3k for extended warranty right now if I could.
P.S. engine and transmission SEEM solid.. does the warranty cover leaking water pumps/radiator? If so, that might be another $500-$800 right there.

I mean get a warranty if you like but don't do it because of the control arms, it's the single most overblown topic in the entire history of the Internet. Seriously.

As doublebase said, control arms are no reason to get a warranty. You will not recoup your money on that repair if you do it as he described. For example, in my case, I replaced ALL the control arms and shocks AND ball joints for about a grand, and that included a wheel alignment, parts, labor etc. The only other common repair is the water pump which I did for 50 bucks and a couple of hours of my DIY time. A shop could do it for a couple hundred dollars. The engine and transmission are bullet proof.

I had the Lexus Platinum extended warranty on my 2010 LS. After a long period of haggling with the sales manager, I got 2 years coverage for about $1,700. By the time it ran out, I about $5,800 worth of claims paid. My wrenching days are over, and I'd never own an LS without an extended warranty. As long as the warranty coverage was available I used dealer service.

Batteries are rented.. not owned
The battery is the single biggest guaranteed failure you'll have (on any vehicle).. beyond simple stuff like wiper blades. It is a wear item, like brake pads and tires. IMHO a battery more than 3 years old is on borrowed time at least in hotter climates. So my guess is they've seen what I've seen... all the planned maintenance in the world won't make your battery last any longer. Having said all that, the battery is easy to replace and not too expensive.
