Need 460 LS advice
I just turned 80! Have osteo arthritis in both shoulder and left shoulder was 'replaced'. Have a 2010 RX 350 . Car rides rough, tires are noisy, steering makes shoulders hurt after a 40 mile round trip. Wife has a 2003 GS300 140k rides and drives great! Sold my sailboat and don't need a SUV anymore (I hope). So is a older 460LS 2007-2010--- for me???? Advice please. Thanks . George

We have a 2010 RX 350 and an 07 LS 460. When we want to travel in comfort we use the LS. I would not hesitate in recommending it, however some people find it harder to get in and out of a car vs a SUV, for instance my father is 6 foot and 76 years old, getting in and out of the LS seems harder for him compared to the RX. Once in there is no comparison in the 2 for ride quality. Also the LS gets better mileage even with the V8.

I have a 2016 GX460 and 2008 LS460. While the LS460 drives comfortably and accelerates faster than the GX460, the LS460 has a much lower driving position than the GX460. Because of its lower driving position, the LS460 is not as easy to get in and out as the GX 460. One of my friends is in his 80s. When he visited me and needed to borrow one of my cars, I asked him to pick one. After trying both, he liked the GX460 over LS460 for the reason that the GX460 sits higher than the LS460. After driving the GX460 for 3 days, he commented that the GX460 is comfortable for folks in his age, except for its floating boat feeling. I, too, have found that the GX460 is comfortable on long drives on freeways. So, I'd recommend that you check out a GX460 in addition to a LS460.

The LS is a beautiful riding and driving car. However, the steering is not nearly as light as it was on my older LS430 or LS400. A test drive is in order.
Will ride much better than the RX.

Me too. However, for folks in their 80s with arthritis, LS460 may not be their best choice because of the lower driving position, which makes it a challenge to get in and out. The GX460 has a handle on the front pillar, which offers a grasp for assistance to get in the truck.

My LS 460 was quieter and smoother than the RX 350 loaner. The 460 should be a good choice but its a large full size car.

Good thing about the LS460 it is very nimble for the size and weight of the car. Comfort wise, it has to be the best smooth riding vehicle in the fleet. I trust me I have own just about every Lexus model. Since you're looking for an 07-10 I would avoid one's with air suspension.

Might I suggest you consider the 2010-2012 LS460. Those have some nice features added to the 07-09. As for ride, I certainly have enjoyed my 08 and it's still a dream to me. I'd stay away from air suspension and be sure the car is equipped with a Mark Levinson sound system.

TEST DRIVE and quandry!!!
Well I did it-went to a local dealer in my 2010 Gold RX350 and test drove a 2011 LS460 (Certified). DId not have any entering &exiting. Car was smooth controls very similar to my RX350/// LS also very quiet with no tire noise below 50mph highest speed achieved. It just does not seem right for me to abandon my RX350 because of the tire noise. Plus I would feel foolish buying new tires that are basicall only 1/3 worn 5/32 and getting new ones. I originally followed Tire Rack which said the Michelin all seasons were quiet -When I bought the car 2 years ago it had even more expensive and noisy Michelin "ALL SEASONS " which looked like snow itires. I'm going from "pillar to post" I have ever added some sound deadeneing material to call trying to get a quiet ride. It helped partially------------- My wifes 2003 GS300 with 145000 is a dream ride with Michelin MTX! HELP>

I get an RX350 loaner when my LS460 is in for maintenance and, honestly, the ride, comfort and quietness are not much different. I think you do have an issue with your tires. Swapping them out will be a LOT cheaper than trading in the RX! You may even get a decent trade in allowance for your Michelins if they really are only 1/3 worn.

For maximum comfort, I suggest find an LS with an air-ride suspension, and keep it on "Comfort." Smooth as silk. At 80 years, sounds like your shoulders are a real problem, but maybe your legs are better. It's all up to you about ingress / egress, as all the points listed previously are valid. My M-I-L is searching for a car with "butt-height" seats. She found the Toyota Highlander with no running boards to be optimal for her.
Oh, and I might add, if you found an LS with air suspension, you could keep it on "Comfort" Mode and HEIGHT HIGH! It's a good 1.5 ~ 2 inches higher on HEIGHT HIGH to help with ingress / egress! Advantage air suspension (in this case).
