Credit card key on 2017?
#77
Here is my success story made possible by this thread. I have a 13 LS460 L AWD.
1) I asked an Arizona based Lexus dealer that sells on ebay if they would put up a custom listing for me with my card key and physical uncut key part numbers for my car. This seller had many card keys listed but not the one I needed. They did and here is what was listed
SMART KEY - 89904-50L80 ( Qty 1 )
METAL BLADE - 69515-30350 ( Qty 1 )
I would imagine any uncut physical card key would have worked but they confirmed there was a specific part number for my vehicle.
Total cost shipped to NY was 270. Although I did inquire if the seller could cut the physical key for me if I supplied proof of ownership, they would not do this unless the car was brought to their dealership.
2) Used techstream for the first time - purchased it from a US based seller on ebay for 35. I loaded it on a windows 10 64 bit laptop. I did a full backup of the laptop before loading the software just in case. Looked at a youtube video in which I guy uses techstream to program a smart key for a Lexus SUV. I was nervous about this step but it turned out to be very easy.
I now have a fully functioning Lexus Card Key. Still need to get the physical key cut and will follow the advice earlier in this post regarding what type of locksmith I need to bring it to, big box stores will not be able to do this. Out of curiosity I asked a Lexus dealer earlier this week how much they would charge to program a brand new key - they quoted 160!

Excellent! Glad it helped.
Id get Techstream too but I’d have to get a windows laptop to run it.

I’m about to buy a 2010 LS460L AWD, and would love to get a key card to work with the car (I had one on my 2008 LS600HL and enjoyed it a lot).
Did you have any problem getting the key card to work on your 2010? Do you have a 460L? Is the correct part number HYQ14AEB?
Thanks!

You can get that done no problem.

There are lexus dealers that sell through ebay. You’d be fine with those sellers as it is just like buying from a Lexus dealers parts department, full warranty and all. Once you know the correct part numbers you can shop around for the best price.

You're correct but I couldn't find any eBay sellers selling the card key with the right part number. I even contacted a few of the dealers active selling on eBay and none would help me, they all said the part doesn't exist. So, you might be able to roll the dice but its a huge PITA. I ordered one on eBay that they swore would work and it wouldn't.

I've been digging deep into this topic in order to find the right key card for my "new to me" 2010 LS460L. From all of my research, it seems that the key card with the FCC ID of HYQ14AEB will work for my car, despite the fact that my current key fob shows an FCC ID of HYQ14ACX. This has been confirmed by several sites I've read.
It appears that members have had success ordering Lexus Part Number 89994-48142. This card does not show as being compatible when I checked on www.LexusPartsNow.com, but again, several people have said that one works just fine.
I did find a Lexus Part Number that shows Compatibility with my VIN. It's Lexus P/N 89994-48072. I haven't heard anyone specifically mentioning this P/N as having worked, but the fact that it shows that it is compatible (on LexusPartsNow.com) seems to be a good sign.
As far as prices go, it appears the best deal to be had is at LexusPartsNow, with a price of $228 for the card (plus and outrageous $19 for shipping). It's available on the MyLParts.com site for $273, and with the Club Lexus 10% discount (using CL5 as the Coupon Code), that brings the price to $246.
I'm torn between ordering the P/N known to work (89994-48142) and the one showing as compatible on the LexusPartsNow site (89994-48072). If I order the first one, and it doesn't work, I'll be stuck paying a 20% restocking fee, since the part did not show as being compatible with my car... I just want the thing to work...
Also, any idea how much I should expect Lexus to charge to program the card?
Thanks for any advice!

So there are a bunch of these sites. Google the part number that is supposed to work and check compatibility across multiple sites.
I personally would order the PN that those sites say is compatible. The keys did change in 2013.
If that PN doesn’t work you can always return it, if you buy the “wrong one” maybe not.
My dealer charged $50. Remember to order the insert key separately if you want that.

I just successfully had a new Key Card programmed for my 2010 LS460L, and I wanted to share details in case any other forum members are considering this upgrade.
After a lot of research, I came to the conclusion that there were a couple of Key Card part numbers that would work for my car. They are P/N 89994-48142 (the one I bought) and P/N 89994-48072 (the one my Lexus dealer thought "might possibly" work for my car). The trick is to get a Key Card with an FCC ID of HYQ14AEB. My actual key fobs had an FCC ID of HYQ14ACX, but I don't think any of the Key Cards actually are a perfect match for that ID (perhaps that's why the Lexus Parts guys told me none of the Key Cards would work for my LS460). The AEB cards are definitely a good substitute for the ACX key fobs that most of us have on our 460s.
I bought my Key Card from Amazon ( ) for $210 plus $6 shipping. It came from Bell Lexus in Arizona, and is returnable if it doesn't work (that's what prompted me to take the plunge). My Lexus dealer was able to program the card in like 10 minutes, and they charged me $67. If I had a Techstream setup, I'm sure it would have been easy to do myself.
Loving not having to search around for the clunky Lexus key fob every time I jump in my car!

Congrats! Yeah I really like the card key.
Did you get the insert also and get it cut?

It's definitely a "luxury" (not a necessity) to have the Key Card, but I'm driving a luxury car, so it makes perfect sense!

Yeah I don't have one either, and getting one seems to be a total PITA. The dealer can order one cut for me but they want $200 just for the insert, I can order the insert online for $35 but then have to get it cut somewhere...
