Haven't seen one up close yet, or driven one, but I'm going to have a look at the new KIA Stinger. I'm not 100% sure I'm ready to fork out any cash (as I'm retiring next year), but I'm tempted.

I saw one at the car show and I was impressed.

I feel like Kia today is where Honda was during the mid to late-80's: they're finally putting out some quality vehicles but still have a long way to go before the public at large drops the stigma tied to the Kia name. They still have a ways to go before they convince me to buy one but they're certainly heading in the right direction.

Thats what I was kind of thinking.
Personally if I'm going the Kia/Hyundai route, I'd get myself a G90. Now that thing looks like an amazing car. Saw one at the Boston car show and I must say I found it to be the most impressive car there.

I don't think so. Based on specs alone, they aren't similar (Cargo volume, wheelbase, length, height, etc). I'm sure it shares the same tech and parts though, much like The LS does with it's Toyota brethren. That said, even if it is basically an Optima at the root, it certainly does't change how gorgeous it is and how ridiculously fast is. 0-60 in 4.4 seconds. RWD vs FWD. etc
Funny, I remember the comments on the Bimmerfest forums about the LS being a "gussied up Avalon".
Just curious......like what? Warranty is unbeatable, reliability over the past 5 years at least has been in the top 5. Initial quality and fit and finish has also been in the top 5 or less. Honda, Nissan, Subaru and some others that were considered the benchmarks for reliability. have fallen off the charts. True Lexus and Toyota still hold the honors for being at the top, but Acura and Honda are around 17th of the 28 manufacturers.
I agree that they have a way to go to lose the stigma. Less so in Canada as Hyundai and Kia have been here for longer than the US. Japanese cars had the same stigma back in the late 60's and early 70's. "Jap Crap".
Indeed. I'm just thinking Id like to go a tad smaller. The G80 is an option I suppose, but the price point is still higher than the Stinger. It also blows it away performance wise. Ah well...we'll see. LOL ....I need to drive it before I get to far ahead of myself. Oh AND convince the wife that this is in ANY way a good idea.

It's a very intriguing car with hatchback practicality. Apparently a few ex-Audi and ex-BMW guys were involved in its development. Would love to take one for a test drive to see what the hype is all about.

Review says they are "on the loud side".
That would keep me from buying one. I live where it sometimes snows and the roads are rough due to chains and studs. Road noise in our BMW 328xi is extreme. The LS460 is not. That's where I'm at on road noise. I sure don't want wind and other noise to add to it.
Pretty nice looking car though. And their quality is up. I like Kia. Especially this modified one:

Not even close, the Stinger is on a RWD platform, has a 365 turbo 6 cylinder, and competes with a Audi S4, 3 series, Q50. The Optima is on a fwd trans platform and only has 4 cylinder now, they are totally different cars.

I'm still not sold and could not drop 50K on a KIA when I know I could get a GS-F with a few miles on it but unfortunately, I'm choosing KIA over any a comparable US domestic model.
Here's a pretty good vid from Doug Demuro on the Stinger:

Call this odd, but I was very impressed by the 2018 Honda Accord 2.0t. It is as quick as a RWD LS460, but with better mileage and lower cost: https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...ic-test-review
