I suggest looking for an 3.5mm bluetooth receiver with Qualcomm AptX HD for quality sound if you connect with compatible devices with Qualcomm snapdragon 835. You can find them for less than 30$... If you guys value quality sound the standard Bluetooth codec won't cut it.

Sounds like a great upgrade once I get a new phone. Only thing I found negative was that one reviewer said the difference isn't that great for most mainstream streaming services, but is a good difference if you are playing a decent FLAC library or higher level services such as Tidal or Qobuz, due to compression of the source signal.
For the phone any last year Android flagship such as galaxy s7 and Google pixel as the Qualcomm snapdragon 835 then under Bluetooth settings you will get HD audio option and voilà!

New receiver works as advertised, auto connect on start up. Once I see one with the updated HD output capability that is also auto connect and works with my phone i may upgrade.

Hey Spudo,
Thanks for this post. I now have audio streaming in my '08 Base! However, when I received the HomeSpot receiver I plugged it in and I could hear music, but I also heard a whine/static. Turned out I needed a ground loop isolator. Installed it, now it's perfect. Thanks!
For anyone following this:
1. Order Spudo's recommended receiver here:
2. If you get it and you hear a whine/interference, order this ground loop isolator- it's all plug and play- you just plug the receiver into it and you're good to go-
Note: There are other isolators available, but I saw a couple posts in the Amazon reviews where people were complaining some of the other ones cut the volume of the streaming. Someone who seemed to know what he was talking about said everyone should be using this one because that doesn't happen with it. Just get this one- it is working perfectly.
Now, when I start my car, my phone connects to the car, and also connects to the receiver for audio streaming. Awesome!
Thanks,
Brian

sorry for bringing up a old thread but I rather reply to his then make a new thread, I just have a quick question on how these items work in the car, when you plug it into the car does it automatically play music or do you have to click on a certain option in the vehicle to stream music on your phone onto the car?

I got this BK01 on Amazon. About 30 bucks. It plugs into your auxiliary line in. It has a device on the cord that prevents the feedback noise people get. The external device pictured by ignition button (very natural to use there, I don't even look at it just reach) allows you to pause forward and back on song selections. Also has a microphone that works well there even with windows down.. You can still run phone through the cars factory Bluetooth or run it all through the BK01. The wire to the external device is long enough to run down and under the flap on your seat. Disappears on my black interior. My only complaint is a little too much wire. I had to rap a length of it together to make it fit nicely in glove box
