non- Nav vs Nav systems

If you have a car without, sell it and buy one with, if your shopping, don't buy it with out. And the ML system is awesome well worth the upgrade. I cant say I have heard anyone who was successful on doing this.
The NON-NAVI LS460's are not wired for a navi system.

You'd be better off with a nice aftermarket one. Word on the street is that a Testla style head unit may be created for the LS460. There are already ones out there for other Lexus models. This Tesla Style unit is for the 2007-2011 GS350. You guys can be the first to get it and report back to the forum!

You can add any double DIN head unit to an LS460, with or without factory GPS, and no you do not have to have an amp. My buddy’s shop that did my installation has been doing them with or without amps since he did my installation, and a few were just double DIN units with GPS in cars with no factory GPS.

Thanks. When installing a double DIN stereo in an LS how is the channel button functionality impacted? In other words right now my stock stereo unit has input buttons for AM/SAT, FM, DISC/AUX. And when I select one the stock LCD/Nav screen changes to show me my channel presets. Would all aftermarket double DIN units support this same functionality?

There are some shops making a fiberglass trim fill in for the buttons, and mounting either a blank panel or iPad Mini in the location using a Soundman kit, then having Upholstery shops match the interior trim paint on the trim.
There are a couple of people that have actually hooked up a Rasberry Pi to the factory decks and enabled them to also control the aftermarket decks, just check the DIYMA forums. I think it is a little overkill, but hey if they like it then good for them.

Also keep in mind that if you do not want to play around with your factory unit, you can always pick these units very cheap and let an installer make a really nice custom piece out of the extra piece you can get on eBay. I found one for a friend last week for $90 and it had free shipping. He is having an iPad Pro 12.9” installed in his. I will post pics when his is completed and he sends them to me.
Here is one marked down on eBay:

When I go to Crutchfield and input my 2009 LS it tells me they have no double DIN stereos that fit my car. What's the brand and model of your stereo? Did your installer fabricate a custom mount for it? Did you lose any functionality from the stock unit? Thanks.

If you go the custom route with a second audio unit, it of course makes it even easier to restore the car to factory with your original unit to sell the car later on. Also with a custom piece you can have it either color matched by an Upholstery shop, Hydrographics hydro-dipped to match your wood in your car, cover it in leather to match your car, or do like me and use carbon fiber, but I own a carbon fiber shop and like hacking my stuff up lol.
