LS trans service

I was skeptical of the owners manual service intervals especially the no service ever for the trans.

my local trans shop said drop the pan, replace the filter and the pan gasket. Ok.

but for sure replace the fluid.

my search had me call Steve Larsen at luxury motorcars the luxlink guy in Monrovia, ca.

no filter in trans. Fine screen only.

he hooks his trans machine to the lines and back flushes ALL the 16 quarts of oil out of the trans.

reccommenda 30k change intervals,

he has had several never changed trans oil LS’a that needed $7k trans,, ,

I understood that 2001-2006 had screen but 2007+ had a traditional filter. Can someone who knows sure please confirm?
At what mileage did those customers needed a new transmissions?

The part is labeled “strainer” as are the ls400 and ls430 similar trans parts.
only to stop pieces from going through the solenoid valves?
old oil will cause the solenoids to stick. According to Steve a backflush always fixes that.
My local guy seems to not be as technically advanced as Steve.
unknown miles, I assume high as he has a lot of long term customers.
Will ask when I drive the 60 miles plus to have him do the service

Found a picture LS460 transmission filter in the thread https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...on-filter.html
If you click on the details button all say strainer. Any “filter” would require service. No such service is specified in my service schedule. Lexus states the trans is sealed. No dip stick. I do not think the LS 460 has a trans drain plug?
why should it? No service required. Supposedly. Not me.

I have done drain/refills on LS430 and planing to do that on LS460 as well. If done properly, I can't see how it can hurt.
Canadian vehicles require transmission service at 60K miles therefore it make no sense that US vehicles never require it.

The filter in the transmission is not a screen type like in other Lexus vehicles, it is paper and I'd suggest changing it out at some point. Having said that, I changed mine out at 70,000 miles and just did simple drain and fills from there on out with zero issues whatsoever. The transmission is the last thing you need to worry about with these cars, they're very reliable and durable. So durable that you can buy one for like $1,200 bucks used on eBay (simply because there is no demand for them). When a LS460 is totaled and they sell it for parts, they practically have to give those transmissions away.
I wish this 8 speed transmission was in every car, it'd be the end of everyone's problems and we'd all be getting great gas mileage.

I am curious why Canadian cars have fluid change at 60K and the US none at all.
I've always been skeptical of shops that want to do service sooner than manufacturer recommended intervals and use scare tactics like inflating repair/replacement costs.

The manufacturer's recommendations only reflect their own and the governments's agenda. It is your car and if you care to keep it for high miles it is best to keep your fluids clean. Yes I took that picture and that is the new PAPER filter I installed. I bought it aftermarket cheap. It came in a kit with a new pan gasket. By sealed transmission they mean harder to change the fluid because of no dipstick to refill through and measure the level. Its just a normal pan with a rubber gasket and paper filter. The tricky part is getting to the tight fill plug and measuring the temp of the fluid to achieve the correct fill level.
