Probably not a good idea to buy a used luxury car and not be able to pay for any possible repairs IMO.
whoever is selling you the policy intends to make a lot of money selling it.

[QUOTE=sktn77a;10200064]This is true as a rule. But the LS has several systems that are trouble-prone and VERY expensive to fix. I would guess less that 5% of LS owners are DIY types.[/QUOTE
we hope our SWB, non AWD, non air ride, no ml stereo with normal nav and some good options turns out long run to be stone reliable as it seems so far.
Nice car.

When I bought my '09 a few years ago I purchased an exclusionary warranty from Carchex. It was a 3 year policy that cost me somewhere around $2500 at the time and it saved my life. I submitted and got approved for claims totaling over $10k. Their claim submission process was simple and I never experienced any sketchiness. I always brought my car to my Lexus dealer for service and the service consultant always handled the back and forth with Carchex. I always got a loaner car so it was a smooth experience for me. After I had racked up a lot of claims they started sending out an inspector to check that my claim was legit and I still got approved every time. I would buy another policy from Carchex if I ever needed to.

My "suggestion" would be to NOT buy an extended warranty. But that's me. The only car I wished I had bought one for, was my BMW. Interestingly, no warranty company would provide one.

I purchased a warranty with my purchase. I am not ashamed of it either, A used LS could get very expensive for repairs. I am very mechanically inclined. I have 46 years experience driving Large trucks. That's 4.6 million miles. an average 100.000 miles a year. I've probably driven backwards more miles than most people have driven forwards. lol.
When My truck breaks down its very expensive to repair. A lot more expensive than any automobile. That's a fact! and when I'm down I'm not making money. So its a personal preference. If you feel more at ease buying a service contract. Then go for it.

Give us more info on the pre owned, is it a pre 2010, does it have air suspension, was it well maintained, etc? If you avoid the dealership, do DIY as much as you can I think it is a waste of money, if you are getting a pre 2010, it has air suspension, was not maintained that well, and you don't DIY and don't have a decent indy then it may make a little more sense but I still don't think they are really needed unless you get the hybrid.
