Default Pirelli Cinturati P7 Plus Mileage Update

I had my 70,000 service done on the LS today and of course they measured the tread depth. I installed the P7's on 15 Sep 2015 and now have 22,692 miles on them and the tread depth is 5/32th so just a little over half of the tread left. So if all goes well I might see 40K out of them but I don't see the 50,000 they are rated at. I run them at 34psi and I will check them every couple of weeks not only with the display but with a digital air psi gauge. Remember I only get to drive the LS when it needs, gas, service or we go on a trip.

Dennis, That seems pretty reasonable to me (40K miles of use), based on how heavy our cars are. However, the warranty/lifetime rating is actually 70,000 miles on the P7 Cinturato All Season Plus tires, not 50,000. I would think if your tires do end up being worn out after 40K miles, you'd be able to get a prorated refund from Pirelli (or at least a credit towards a new set).

I've been pretty happy with the overall smoothness and quiet of my set of Pirelli P7s, although I've only put around 2k miles on them so far...

Sorry to hear you don't get to drive your LS much! Might be time for a second LS in the Dennis stable?

Rick

Thanks for the update. For some reason I had 50K in my mine on the mileage ratting for the P7's. Ya know I complain a little about not getting to drive the LS much but the DW looks much better in it than I do. Besides I like driving my 90 BII. We will be out in Nebraska next week for our 50th HS reunion in Geneva. Please try and not have the wind blowing 40 plus next week.

Remember tire wear slows down dramatically as they age. It took 22k miles to get to 5/32nds but it could absolutely take 40-45k miles to get from 5/32nds to 2/32nds (wear bars).

I always replace tires at 3-4/32nds so I never get the full life out of a set of tires. My P7s on my 2015 had 41,000 miles on them and they were at 5/32nds when I had that irreparable tire that caused me to get a whole new set. Plenty more life on them.

I've never heard of this, can you explain? I thought it'd be the opposite. With say brake pads, the second half of their service life is much shorter than the first. They lose their ability to dissipate heat because of the material on the pads that have been worn away, and the remaining amount goes much quicker. Thought tires would be similar? I figured with rubber removed they wouldn't be able to dissipate heat from the road as easily, plus with less traction there'd Ben more slippage, increasing temp and wear.

Why would they wear slower? Different rubber compound underneath? Less tread = less heat?

Not a tire engineer But I have always heard and experienced that once tires get to half life, they wear longer.
