Default Timing belt or chain?

Hello,

I am looking to buy an LS 460 and the sales person I talked to told me the LS 460's have gone back to a timing chain somewhere around '08 or '09. Does anyone know if this is true? If so, when is it recommended to be changed.

Thanks

Its a chain, and there is no scheduled recommendation for it to be changed.

^^ i second that. Only time a timing chain needs to be changed is if there is an issue with the chain sich as stretching or related parts such as chain guides wearing or guide tensioners.

And the cam phasers can compensate for chain stretch, since the ECM knows the position of the crankshaft and each of the 4 camshafts with respect to each other.

My 10 LS is just about 63K. I have confirmed with the dealer that there is no timing belt as with my LS430. However, the dealer did not mention about the 90K job (While it seems there is a long way to go before hitting 90K given that this car is only for weekend errands). Should I wait until 90K and see what happens? Any inputs are appreciated. Thank you.

There is no requirement to do anything with your timing chain ever, and certainly not at 90k. A timing chain is not a replaceable wear item like a timing belt, it should under normal operation NEVER need to be changed.

The 90k service on the LS460 is just an oil change, tire rotation, filter changes, inspections etc.
