So the saga is at an end LOL

I took it to another inspection station this afternoon, and they passed it. His meter didn't even read out in tenths, it just read "35" and thats the legal limit so its all good. He was shocked the first shop wouldn't pass it at 34.7, MD doesn't require a reading to the tenths, so he was being stricter than state law required. That first shop is an awesome shop, they install tires for me from TireRack, they do a beautiful job and everybody is great...but just don't go there for a MD state inspection

For those curious, here is the car with legal MD tint. The film is 40% Formiula One Stratos, which measures a MD legal 35%. Its still way darker than I thought legal tint would look, but I'm happy with it vs the 30% it had before which I always felt was a little too dark:

This was the car right after the 30% had been put on:

Hi Steve,
Good to hear about the happy ending Beautiful car, BTW
Your 35% tint appears darker than my 35% tint. I have a black interior too. My car is obsidian, and that could be fooling me into thinking my tint is lighter than yours. Then again, I got a standard Llumar non-ceramic for $200; it's probably not the best quality.

Edit: Nevermind, I may have 50% on my windows. I have to check...

Unfortunately for me I have become an expert in window tint through this ordeal LOL

Apparently the light exterior vs the dark exterior has an impact too, tint looks darker on light colored cars.

Something to consider when it comes to window tint. Most states allow a medical exemption to window tint laws. These exemptions are summarized here:

I was wondering about the multiple readings too. Did they measure it at the same time of day at the same spot as before? Time of day, or an overcast day, can skew the readings. Since the second shop metered 35% you probably do have a darker tint than "40" tier. Our LS was purchased used and came with tint. I have not been pulled over yet despite the front windows having tint. I am curious what my tint levels actually are and will have to go find a shop that can meter it. Glad you're legal now but sorry for the ordeal.

No, I just left the sunroof. I've considered having it tinted clear though to reject heat.
