You need to do at least 4 drain and fills if you want at least 70%ish new fluid. 8 times gets you 90% assuming you drain out 1/4 total capacity. A pan drop should be first so that the first drain is a larger percent of total fill then follow up drain and fills till you are happy with the blend. I did 6 total including the pan drop.

Here is the transmission drain/refill replacement ratio for the example of replacing 1 qt. in a 4 qt. unit each drain and fill.
#1 25.00%
#2 43.75%
#3 57.81%
#4 68.36%
#5 76.27%
#6 82.20%
#7 86.65%
#8 89.99%
#9 92.49%
10 94.37%

Drive it a little on the lift between each drain/fill to let the system work the blend though without shocking anything. Or just do them all rapidly back to back.....I did, it probably wasn't the best idea but a replacement trans is like all of $800 and 4 hours so I didn't care.

He’s keeping it over night to go over some front brake squeaking issues I’ve been having.

It’ll be done by end of day tomorrow. I’ll update afterwards.

That’s great to hear!

So this is the 2nd drain & fill done by Lexus?

Also, do you notice the shifting to be smoother?

Finished fluid change w/ 3 drain & fills.

Dropped pan & cleaned inside, along with magnets.

I haven’t had chance to drive around much, so I’ll have to circle back whether shudder is gone.

I can def feel butter smoother shifting, effortless acceleration & rough idling while in D & A/C off is 99% better.

The most noticeable improvement is acceleration. While merging on freeway, pressing gas pedal slightly almost instantly wakes up the V8!

Prior to fluid change, there was a noticeable delay when pressing gas pedal. Now, the lag is totally gone.

My Indy used all OEM replacement parts & fluid.

The cold flare comment if the fluid is 4oz. low is VERY interesting. I wonder if that's the source of the cold 2-3 flare present in a large number of LS460s that haven't had their fluid level adjusted?

Can anyone who noticed the cold 2-3 flare and changed/adjusted their fluid level comment on whether that fixed it?

Now that I've changed the filter and some of the fluid I notice a difference when it's cold and at operating temp.
It doesn't shift like an ISF but it's more decisive when it shifts now but smoother than what it was previously.

Just an update. Lexus Serramonte charged me $168 for 1 drain and fill. It made a pretty big difference in the reduction of the transmission shudder. I only get a hint of a shudder now. The option to drop the pan was going to be at least $750 (3 hours labor) so I choose not to do that. Will continue to go at it incrementally with subsequent drain and fills in the future.

I'm about 10 days in after pan drop & 3 drain and fills. Shudder is 95% gone. I still feel the slightest shudder, but it could also be the crappy roads where I live.

My mechanic showed me before and after pics of the pan. If anyone is on the fence because of pricing, or the extra time if you're a DIY'er...Do it! The after pics was literally night and day. It was NASTY, and you could barely see the magnets prior to cleaning.

I can personally say that dirty transmission fluid is the main culprit of the notorious shudder.

BTW, I have 88K miles.
