Dealer to take back LS 460, 2007 dash issue
Well, the dilemma is do I give car back and wait for another, like an 08, or get the tacky shiny dash fixed on an otherwise great 460.
Cost for dash will be 1500, plus shipping and tax. Then install 1000?.
Car has 93 K on it with new tires, Telios Wheels, brakes, rear shocks. Paid 15,400 for it.
Any thoughts....

Do you also have sticky door panels? If you have a sticky/tacky dash, the door panels can't be far behind, which would be more $ down the line.
Another option is to upholster the entire dash with leather, as well as the door panels. Many CLers have had the door panels done this way for less than 1000. The shop may be able to do the dash also, and you would be set.

did you put any money into the car after purchasing it (tires, shocks, etc)? it's pretty good that the dealer is willing to take back the car for the price you paid but I suppose you gotta weigh the costs and time involved in finding another one versus paying for the new dash yourself.

Thanks for response, no I did not put anything into it. Dealer put new brake pads on, two new shocks, serviced it. I am paying 15400 for it. Previous owner put new tires on 3 weeks before trading. It had the Telios Wheels from earlier in its life. Has the Levinson.
The only disappointment is the damn dash.

What are you losing out of pocket in the end? Sales tax and registration fees? What is the "real" money lost here?
I wonder what the dealership plans to do with it when you give it back. I'm guessing sell it to someone who can tolerate it.
Comfort plus package is just as rare as a LS460L without air shocks.
How bad is your dash? Is it like Play Doh where you can press your finger into it and leave your finger prints? My 2008 has a little chalky finish once in while when hot. I can wipe it off. That may be the dressing drying up A microfiber cloth does grab a little but terry cloth doesn't. I add a light polish like Pledge and it looks nice again for the rest of summer. If it is just shiny then don't worry about it, just use a sun shade when parked outside.
You got a taste of how great the Ls460 is. You have a chance to do a "reset" and get one newer with less miles. You just have to roll the dice on waiting for the right one.

I've been waiting over a year & a half for the two front door panels.
Another issue you might have pop up is the amp. I love the car, but for a flagship model, it has a lot of small things that add up to make me hate it.
This is my 3rd Lexus & 5th in the family, no other Lexus we have owned has had this may problems/issues
If I did just a little more research on the car before buying it, I might have looked for another model or brand.

Glad it worked out for you! I've worked with Lexus of Omaha to purchase 6 difference Lexus cars over the past 4 years, and have always enjoyed working with them! They don't always have the best price, but they really stand behind their cars and are very reasonable to work with, which is worth a little extra $$ in my mind. Now enjoy that LS!
