Ever wonder how much quieter the LS is than a mainstream family sedan?
We've discussed interior noise in here before, and used dB meters, etc. I thought you would find this interesting.
So I went on a day trip out to the eastern shore today with a buddy of mine, he has a Honda Accord, he drove. On the way back, thinking to myself how loud it was inside, I happened to open up the dB meter on my phone and took a dB reading of 74 @ 70 MPH. Once back in my LS headed home, I did the same thing at 70 MPH and got a dB reading of 59.
Now, hardly scientific, but same app, similar road...the dB reading on the Accord was surprisingly high to me.
That's one thing I've noticed in most Accord reviews - cabin noise is always high. I think the latest model is better, but I've still seen people complain about the noise, especially road noise from the tires with the larger wheels.
Yeah, I've always found Hondas in general quite loud. Although some of the newer ones are better, my Cousin's new Civic is quieter than I expected for instance. The new Odyssey is pretty quiet.
Not quite sure about the Prius on that chart. Having had an 05 with new tires and meticulously maintained, that car was far from isolated or quiet on the roadways.

I've owned two Accords and both were extremely quiet idling but the road noise was extremely loud.
If you ever get a chance to ride in a Tesla Model S I'd be curious what reading you get. We test drove one 2 years ago and I was surprised how noisy it was on the highway.

Great article! I love the fact that the LS600hL came out the clear winner, substantially quieter than even the Mercedes S Class! I always marvel at how whisper quiet my LS600 is cruising the interstate at 75 mph (at 1100 rpms)...
I have a couple. They're both called "dB Meter"...I'll see if I can find a link to them

I was also very surprised when I drove the Model S at how loud it was on the highway.

Probably predominantly road/tire noise. My 2014 LS is noticeably noisier than my 2007. I won't know for sure the cause until I change the Bridgestone Turanzas to Michelins.

I'm sure its the tires. My 15 and 17 Less were/are just as quiet as any LS I've had, but swapping out the Turanzas for the Pirellis even when the Turanzas were brand new had a big impact.
its true for the other Lexus cars as well, in my case the Rx350, my 8 and 7 years old hates to ride in it / they think its too loud and bumby + they cant sleep in it. In the LS they like to sleep anything more than a 20 min ride. But its hard to come out the LS and get into any normal family car and love it. We took a trip with a family friend in a sienna and the first thing my boy says after getting back into the LS is how much he loves the massaging seats(i dont have massaging seats) and its so comfortable. Amazing how much kids notice these little things.
We are car shopping 3rd baby coming/ and its really hard to like anythingi wish the LS had a third row - i am leaning on the Lx570 again.
