Does anyone know the compatibility issues of buying a newer style 2010-12 navigation system that can stream music and install it in my 08?

no idea about that but probably easier to buy something like GROM or some other brand and fit it

 

I know it's not Bluetooth like your looking for, but, you can use a headphone jack from your phone to the jack in the center console(in 2007-09 models), and play music through the AUX setup. It does work pretty well.

A cable for it like under $2...

 

I have an 07. I added a Bluetooth adapter made by HomeSpot, NFC enabled, for $23. I also got a ground loop device. When I get into the car the phone automatically connects. I choose the AUX input and can play anything off my S7. For less than $40 you can get done what you want. The HomeSpot was the second one I tried. This one powers on automatically, the first one you always had to reach into the console to hit a button. All of it is concealed into the console, so looks stock.

I've been using their USB and Ipod products for over a decade. This one shows up as an additional CD player with Song / Track / Artist metadata and ability to browse playlists. It's the closest to an OEM integration I've seen.
