How low can you go??? Fuel.
Just for the heck of it i wanted to see how low on fuel i could get. Usually when the low fuel light comes on it with less than 70 miles to go. At that point there is about 2 + gallons left. So yesterday once it dropped about 40 miles to go the dash changed to this. Thought ok thats good enough filled up took 20.7 gallons to top off. So i guess i could have when another 20 miles or so. The trip miles is correct. But i did take a long day trip a few days before so much of that is Highway driving.

I've put 23.2 gallons in mine. The specs say it holds 22.2, but there's the filler neck. This was at a new Costco, so the pumps were accurate (as was my MPG, so it's a real number).
It was on fumes, obviously.
People will say you'll burn up your fuel pump this way because it uses fuel to stay cool, but honestly, I've been running my machines down to empty for decades (with electric fuel pumps), and I've never replaced an electrical fuel pump...ever.
Only one mechanical one, and that was on a '73 Coupe DeVille back in 1996, or so.
I've gotten over 500 miles out of a tank more than once. These cars get 25-30 MPG on the road, even with the A/C on and at elevated speeds. That's a calculated average, not by the car's readout.

The fuel pumps, well 2 of them at least, are on top of the valve covers, lubricated by engine oil. Direct Injection makes me think these are step-up fuel pumps to increase pressure required for direct injection. Likely there's one in the tank as well.

How exactly does the direct injection and port injection system work for this engine? Haven't heard many of the common DI engine issues in this gen of Lexus engines. ie carbon build up

On a side note, I once accidentally ran my 430 gas tank dry and got stranded on the side of the highway. A mistake I have fortunately avoided since then. A friendly tow truck driver gave me around 1.5 gallons of gas to get me to the nearest gas station a few miles away. Apparently, when run bone dry, it take more than a gallon of gas to "prime" and start the engine.
Heard from many sources that 1/4 tank is a good marker for refilling gas, especially if running the car at higher speeds, since it does make sense that the gas may be keeping the pump cooler and possible grime and dirt are more likely than not to be sucked when it runs lower on fuel.

I always refill around 1/4 tank

Never ran out of gas, routinely ran it to the warning light on the old '08 and now the '10. Always run it over 400+ miles, sometimes 500+ before fueling up, once a week. Of the 110+ fill ups I've tracked (on the '08 460) 90+ of them were for 20+ gals. Not worried about the fuel pumps, not worried about dirt in the fuel. That's what filters are for, both at the pump that reliable stations use (as they are liable if they sell you junk) and the filters on the car. If I were to get bad fuel then I know EXACTLY where to send the bill.

20 around town gets 440 miles. Drive to Vegas at 80 plus 50% of the time was 25.7. I drive it harder because it’s obviously built like a tank. Cannot imagine actually wearing the machine out.

btw, just curious roughly how many miles your Michelin Pilot sport 4S last? wonder how does it compare to the PS AS 3,
thanks,

I get gas when I take a notion. Not based on the gauge. Well … sort of based on the gauge, I mean before reaching the E is based on the gauge. .
The only time I've put substantial miles on the tank was when I procured the vehicle and was driving it cross-country back home. At one point, driving east with a tailwind, I was getting 30+ mpg. Maybe 31 something. But as I recall, I had to stop in the 550 miles on the tank zone. I was trying to get home quickly, so I had had my head down and was intent to keep it rolling. But after like 7 hours, the bladder took priority over range.

I always attempt a fuel up at 1/4 tank. I don't drive my car often so I may fill up once a month or sometimes every 6 weeks. Plus the Costco is a mile away so I'm generally good to go.

When i just do in town driving which means i fill up every 2 weeks or so. I get about 400 miles but i fill up around the 1/4 tank level. So i am thinking just in town could be upper 400s. I was just seeing how close i could get before running out.
