Default Might be moving on.....Ford Fusion Sport? Dodge Charger SRT?

Some of you may have noticed that I have been vacant from CL of late. Wife and I recently purchased a 40' diesel motorhome and are now looking for something to pull behind it (toad). Unfortunately, there is very little that can be 4-down towed. Some caddys and a scant few other American products. Sooooo....I'm off to look at a Ford Fusion Sport (twin turbo V6 - 365 hp). My other option is a Dodge Charger SRT. I still want performance and a degree of luxury, so SUV's, Jeeps. and other towables are out. The cadillac CTS-V is on the radar, but MAN!! EXPENSIVE

Stay tuned......

Out of those 3 options, CTS-V for sure. Even better if you can find a wagon

I actually had noticed your absence. I was wondering if you bought a G90, or some similar vehicle you had talked about. That Ford twin turbo at 365 hp sounds intriguing.

So are we going to be traveling North America soon?

I don't think I'd go with the Caddy. I had a CTS Sport Wagon for six years, and I couldn't believe the amount of crap that broke on that car. No more GM for me.

He said "performance and a degree of luxury", nothing about reliability or cost of repairs

LOL. No G90, though I WISH it could be flat towed. Yes the Fusion is intriguing. Gets great reviews too. 0-60 in 5.1 and can be modified easily with a tune for plenty more power. Lots fof other after market goodies from Steeda, etc

I'm also not ruling out the Taurus SHO, but it's a heavy and large beast, so performance is almost identical to the smaller/lighter Fusion Sport, and more $$$ as well.

Yes, a tour of the US is in the future. I'll be retiring in the next year or two, so snow birding is part of the plan.

I have a Charger SRT and love it!...... It has served me well for 165k. miles and is a 4 door beast.
The Charger is "no where near" the LS460 in luxury but is fun to drive!

BTW! Check out the Chrysler 300 SRT8...... Very nice ride and very powerful!!!!

Sad to hear that, you'd be missed here for sure...I was wondering where you'd been.

The Fusion is going to be a letdown after the LS. I'd say actually look at the Charger. RWD layout, and actually a pretty good riding, refined car...

curious to why aren't you considering other Lexus SUVs? GX/LX. they are as solid and reliable as the LS.

I figured you had sold your LS and were on to something else. Good luck with whatever you purchase. Motorhome? Retiring?

Charger would be my choice over the Ford. I think they drive surprisingly smooth (though not "LS smooth")!

A couple of questions

1: Are you keeping the S&B up in BC to use as a base of operations.

2: Why not keep the LS to have when you are back in BC?

With a 40 DP and a standard sedan you are going to be somewhere around 56-58 feet overall length depending on the type of towbar you use. The 40DP is already going to keep you out of most state and national parks.

Suggestion:

Get a used smart car. All 2008 and newer smart cars can be towed 4 down. The DP will not even know it is back there. They are fun to drive, safe and get great MPG. You will stay under 50 feet overall length.

We full timed for 11 years. Our rig was a Volvo 770. It had a 204 inch WB with an air deck behind the cab which is where we loaded our 2003 smart car cabrio. It had a 535HP Cummins N14 with a 10 speed autoshift. We towed a 40 foot Newmar Kountry Aire fiver which gave us an overall length of 64 feet 10 inches and we scaled at 42, 268lbs. If you have not gone there yet go to rvnetwork.com which is the Escapees home page. More RV info on any subject you will ever want to know. It was a great 11 years with 8-9 months in the RV on the mainland and 3-4 months on our 42 foot sailboat in HI for the winters. You will enjoy.

How come the Grand Cherokee or any of the current Lincoln products didn't make the short list? I'm pretty sure the Nautilus will be able to be dinghy towed when released.
