Do you remember the CR rating on the Mannheim purchase?

For my car? Yes. It was a 3.6. There's a HUGE difference in how each auction site scores cars too. Some grade very strictly and others will let all kinds of stuff slide through without deductions. I think my car was scored fairly accurately. There's no way though that an LS460 with a dent in the fender goes through in New Jersey at 4.5 though.

I always thought 5 was best, but when recently looking at definitions it seems 1 is best.

That is a very interesting link. And completely opposite of how they actually grade the cars. It is still done on a 1 to 5 scale with 5.0 being the highest. I just noticed though that your link has a ".au" attached to it. That would mean Manheim Australia and I'm guessing their criteria are very different. Or maybe it's because they are upside down.

I noticed the .au also, but couldn't check at the time. I did find this, that suggest it is reversed here, with 5 being the best.

Guess if you buy a CR = 2.5 it won't matter. ;-)

Like I said, their grading is not consistent at all between auction locations. What might be a 2.5 in one place could easily be a 4 somewhere else. And vice-versa. You want to dive a bit deeper into the CR to see what's really going on. There are a lot of things with a used car that can take points away that are really easy to fix. Tires, small, buffable scratches, windshield chips, etc. Tires under 4/32nds are going to hit for at least 0.5 or more.
