Default Brake system flush at what point

4 year old LS460L AWD with 42k miles on it. Dealer recommended a break fluid flush after inspecting car at recent oil change. Some one suggested they recommend donig it at 4 years or 100k miles. I am at 4 years and do lots of city driving with a couple of long round trips to NM mountains a year. Maybe another 3 or 4 trips a year to Oklahoma to see my mom. Other than these two round trips of 1200 miles and 200 miles respectively would having this done at this time be a good idea? Is this a wear concern or a braking function concern if not done?

What color is the fluid? I think 5Y/100K is more than sufficient unless you're seeing really dark colored brake fluid.

Lexus official service manual for 2015 LS460 AWD states that brake fluid should be replaced every 30K miles or 36 months, whichever comes first.

Brake fluid absorbs moisture, thus changing it often is optimal. even every 25k/2 years. If a whole brake flush is not practical look into replacing the brake reservoir fluid a but more often to get some fresher fluid into your system.

The fluid being dirty is only part of the problem, as mentioned the fluid is hygroscopic which means it absorbs water over time. Older fluid with a higher concentration of water can lead to corrosion of brake parts and since water boils much sooner than hydro fluid it can lead to brake fade. You are well within the window to have it done. Any brake fluid absorbs water, even the stuff sitting in the open bottle on your shelf.

If you have money to throw at it, change it as often as you want. Interestingly enough, Toyota has no recommended brake fluid flush as part of their scheduled maintenance yet Lexus wants it done every 30K. And it's all made by the same people. You decide whether you think that's needed or profiteering. I know what I think it is.

Make a one man bleeder with a gatorade bottle and 1/4" tubing. You'll be doing it everytime you get a wheel off. Brake fluid is dirt cheap. Very easy feel good maintenance job.

If your driving habit is using lots of braking, every two years. water is enemy to the brake fluid. I use brake very seldom but I do
it every two years.

Thanks all. I will have it done soon and adopt the three year interval. I'm definitely getting old but do not recall doing a flush on ither cars owned. But then I didn't keep them very long either

you can always get a brake fluid tester to test the percentage of water in the brake fluid, and then decide what to do.

For our cars cars tech stream is needed. I have the software but opted to get it done at a Toyota dealer. For 120 bucks I thought it wasn’t bad considering I would have jack up all 4?tires and the work involved

In Canada it's required every 2 years. Color has little, if anything to do with the condition of the fluid. Being hygroscopic, changing the fluid is good mainteneance. My Toyota dealer charges 79.99 and that's in Canada....could be cheaper in the US. Be advised, that doing this job yourself may be more trouble than you may be willing to put up with, given the complex system the LS has (and the problematic actuator).. Even my dealer had to reset the ABS system several times with the Techstream before everything was error-free. This is not your 1984 Corolla.

I'm definitely not gonig to do the flush myself did search the instrument to measure moisture level as something I might do. I have a $125 quote from a DFW area wide company that only does Toyota/Lexus work. Ive used them for other things before and been satisfied

Did you check with your Toyota dealer?
