I would spend up to $14,000 on the right 460 and up to $8,000 on the right 430. Some of the 430 owners have 95k on their car but they want $10k, I'm not doing that when for a couple grand more I can move into a 460. We will see how it plays out!
I'm not sure if you're going to find a (decent) 2010 460 at $14k max budget. And just because someone is asking $10k for a 430 doesn't mean that's what they'll take...

Yea I totally feel you. I'm not giving them exactly what they ask. But some really believe that it is a true collectors car and is worth $3k more than what KBB or NADA says it is worth. If the right one pops up with all maintenance done with good Michelin tires, then sure, I'll pay a little over KBB. But not $3k.

Yeah, that's comical. No LS at this point is a collectors car. Things are only worth what someone is willing to pay - they'll find out soon enough.

I've gotten a ton of great advice from you all. Right now I'm searching searchtempest, craigslist, carguru, and facebook marketplace. I have a couple good candidates of both models. Whichever works out to be the best deal, I will most likely go with.

I've never been a fan of AWD cars just because to me, the steering feels much better on a RWD car. So if I can find a RWD LS 460 that has been well maintained and hopefully has had the brake actuator and suspension already fixed, I'll go for it.

But if I can find a 04-06 430 with under 150k on it and the timing belt has already been done, I might just on that also.

I would spend up to $14,000 on the right 460 and up to $8,000 on the right 430. Some of the 430 owners have 95k on their car but they want $10k, I'm not doing that when for a couple grand more I can move into a 460. We will see how it plays out!
This was my train of thought also. Find the best car for you that's in the best shape. Meaning that there are no obvious issues that require you to start putting money into it right away. Your already going to have to swap all fluids and maybe do tires if that's not negotiated into the price and like SW said have a couple grand on the side for emergency repairs. That should not be a problem as long as you vet the car with some sort of PPI.

Yea I found one I really like for $9k with 95k miles but the timing belt and water pump has never been changed. So now I'm sitting at close to $10.5k after that is done. Call me stubborn but I dont like the idea of buying a car and immediately having to put a thousand $$ into the car.

Your not alone. I really don't want to have to put money into the car right away unless it's negotiated into the purchase price. I'm not counting fluids, brakes, etc. That's why I research religiously and one of the reasons I stay with Lexus. All dealer maintenance records are at your finger tips and ANYTHING you need to look out for will be in these forums.

1500 for a TB and WP job? sounds pretty steep. i get quoted for under 500 by a certified indy Lexus mechanic in SoCal with OEM parts.

I just guessed based off of what previous cars have cost. I'm sure it varies.

There is no timing belt on an LS. Am I missing something?

I'm thinking that refers to a 430 for 9k and 95k miles. a 460 for that price and miles is quite cheap even an 07. 460s moved to chains

i feel like early 460's have hit their depreciation limit and the next main factor is the mileage. 430s despite their quality are a bit outdated in exterior look and a quality low mileage one is even harder to find. i agree that 8k would be my limit for a 430. i'd look for as much current work and maintenance items esp struts, bushings and control arms.

the 460s have a more modern exterior and despite their small issues, i feel it's the sweet spot for used LS bargains.

Hmmmm...9k dollars for a 430 seems high even in Canada. I mean, mine sold for under 10g and it was an 08 with 140k miles

The 2004 LS430 I mentioned in post #21 sold for $10,500 at auction on Tuesday. Someone really, really wanted that car. It'll be interesting to see if it shows up in the retail market and at what price.

FWIW my independent just did the timing belt and water pump on my old 2003 ES300 at $1,100. No way you'll get that done for $500..
