Front control arm bushings FAIL AGAIN
#46
I have to think Toyota revised the control arms, updated the rubber, or something after the initial run. I haven't heard of any failures after replacement or any newer LS with the same control arm issues as the 07-08's

2012 RWD here.. Just replaced failed Lower Rearward Front control arms both sides. Mileage is at 100k, and the other control arms were fine. Now the car drives straight and smooth again. I used OEM control arms from $245 +
$196, and had a local speed shop install them. Labor was $457 which included an alignment.

Yes, they're holding up great as they are brand new OEM. That said, I paid double what aftermarket goes for and didn't replace anything else as I was advised all the other pieces were still good. I hear some creaking/grinding sound when I turn into a parking space hard, or move the steering wheel left or right slowly while stopped. Not sure what that's about but will take a look today. I didn't have that problem before replacing the lower arms but assumed other pieces would show themselves to be faulty after replacing the lower arms.
I have a feeling if I start replacing parts one after another chasing perfection, I'l never be satisfied with this car at 100k. My goal is to get another quality year or two out of the 2012, then trade up for a low-mileage 2017

Search these part numbers on Ebay for a few weeks. They are usually sold separately by different people. Left over warehouse stock, returns, etc. When a price pops up that you like purchase each arm.

Ok bad news guys, my PSB bushings failed in a very short time
Although I installed them about a year ago, the car was not driven much until this December (I had two 460's for a while)
Both sides have failed COMPLETELY, I have a video, you can rock the wheel back and forth, the middle metal insert part wiggles easily in the poly outter …… heres the fun part
My mechanic said he did NOT pre load the wheels before tightening, he said he never has in his time as being a mechanic.
So either these bushings are complete crap, or he really messed up on the install , but now im $1200 in the hole( $100 for clearing cpu codes and diagnosing , $400 cad for bushings , $600 for install, $100 for alignment) and I have to do it all over again
Im hoping he gives me a good price for the install on the second set but this is ridiculous
Ive done more research and found that others with the PSB'S have failed also in a short time
PSB said they can send me out a replacement set, but do I even want to try these things again?
I mean even if they weren't pre loaded, to fail in 2-3 months is ridiculous

These cars are HEAVY. Not preloading the suspension on these is not the same thing as not preloading the suspension on a Honda Civic. I'd give them another shot and ensure they're installed correctly vs the cost of OEM arms.
