Default TPMS - some questions

Hi everyone,

I assume my little TPMS batteries are very near failure in my 07 460 as do not believe they have ever been replaced. So what happens when a battery goes dead?

Does a warning light come on that has to be dealt with by buying a new TPMS or can the warning be turned off and ignored, never to return again?

I am due to rotate tires at Discount Tire very soon, do they sell and install new TPMS's, is their price good or should I order them elsewhere?

Is there some special programming involved, can Discount Tire do this, do I have to go to the dealer?

thanks !

In my 07 one sensor died dash spent a few days just saying Checking on that tire. Finally said see dealer and that would not go away. I too went to Discount had them replace the 4 main tires not the spare. $60 per tire included rotate and balance.

Yes, if you have a TPMS sensor battery go dead the warning light on your dash will come one and you won't get a reading for that tire. I don't know if the warning can be disabled, but I wouldn't suggest it even if it's possible.

I would replace the sensors the next time you're going to have the rubber off the rims--such as new tires or new wheels. If they're currently working I'm not sure it's worth the money to replace them and re-balance the wheels.

There is special programming involved; and any tire shop should be able to do it. (They upload the sensor IDs to the car's computer via the OBD-II port).

I have always read their is special programming involved and even have bought the Carista. But this weekend I put on my second set of stock wheels with snow tires and the car read the sensors with no programming. Am I just the luckiest SOB? Or is it that the LS's actually will find and read whatever TPMS is on the car. IDK

If your old wheels/tires are within radio-range of your car the readings are likely from the old set.

THIS! After Discount Tire failed to reprogram the computer for second set of wheels, my wife drove with the christmas tree of dashboard lights for 6 months. The car would still pickup the winter set even though the wheels were in the basement.

I will let you guys know when I drive home from work. I'm thinking that the LS, no matter how amazing it is, will not be able to pick up the old ones 15 miles away.

If the car is within range of the sensors when you turn the ignition is turned on, the car will have to go 20 minutes with no sensor reports before the alarm comes on.

Alright, since I was up watching football late last night I thought a walk in cold air was needed.

Turns out you guys were currect, no readings. It was reading them stacked in my garage. I am not a lucky SOB.

Now I will have to figure out how to reset/register them with the Carista.
