Lol right, but do you have to reach 3000RPM to just waft around? Wafting is a big part of the luxury experience.
Light to moderate throttle my old V8 will upshift at about 2100 RPM and then stay there as it goes through the gears. It's so smooth and seamless it's almost like there a CVT transmission. (Thank god there's not.)

I've driven several LS500s, while I don't think they ride as well as my 17 LS460L with air suspension, the ride is not that different. The main drawbacks of the car to me are the less refined feeling powertrain, and the far more cramped interior. I think if one swapped the runflats on the LS500 with regular tires the ride would get pretty similar to the LS460L.

My LS600hL does have a CVT Transmission, and while I really don't like the way they drive in other cars (Prius, etc.), I find the CVT a perfect match for the seamless power delivery in the LS600hL. With all the power and torque available via the 5.0L V8 plus hybrid motors, the car is smooth and powerful at any speed, with no need to "downshift" when I hit the gas. The LS600hL accelerating from 45-85 mph is unlike any other car I've experienced (perhaps similar to a Tesla S?). So I guess I'm saying that not all CVTs are painfully slow...
I just wouldn't want a CVT in a regular, non-hybrid car. Not because I think they're slow, it's not about that. I just like actual gears.
