Default Ebay air struts vs. OEM

Sorry it took so long...life has been incredibly busy for the past few months.

Finally got to take pictures of the ebay air struts I bought, which are claimed to be OEM, NIB. Tell ya what, looking at the old ones, side-by-side, I think they're the real deal.

I left these at high res in case any of y'all see something I don't. The part numbers are different because the RW is a right, LW the left. I just grabbed one out of each box, because the new ones are getting 303 sprayed on the rubber, boxed back up, and saved for later.

The old one are on their way to the dumpster...along with some Jeep ZJ steering linkage.

Sure thing. The seller is asianautos , here's a link to one of their auctions.

Hello @mckellyb Sorry to bug you again! I need to replace the rear struts on my 07 LS460L with 103k miles. I found replacement air struts via Ebay seller Xspectrum for about $650 each. This is about half of what I find via Lexus part suppliers elsewhere on the web. I know you've bought some on eBay, but haven't installed them yet. I wonder how they are so much cheaper. It makes me a bit suspicious.
I was also curious, I had to consider my car as having a 'sport package' when sourcing a new steering rack. Must I do the same for the rear air struts? Below screenshot of one of the listings from eBay.

Does anyone else have 'OEM' air shock experience from an eBay seller?

Thanks!

@1WILLY1 Hello *****. It's my understanding that @mckellyb has not yet installed the air struts he purchased on eBay.

I am currently soliciting opinions from anyone else who may have bought and installed these eBay 'oem' struts to see what their experience has been. I may go ahead soon and buy the struts. I will definitely let all know how they turn out.

Just as a question. Does air struts work similar to struts/shocks where a pair needs to be replaced when replacing one of them?

From what I've read, it's a good idea to swap out all struts, even air versions, in pairs. Usually when one goes, the other isn't far behind. Plus, might as well knock them both out at once, especially if you're paying someone to do so.

For the cost of the air struts, I’m more along the lines of an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. Maybe the other will go right away, maybe it will make it another five years, maybe you’ll have another car before it goes.

Very true and I am usually in the same mindset. My car 'only' has 102k miles and since I plan on keeping it another 100k miles, I went ahead and ordered both rear struts from eBay. Plus, I'm planning on selling the other rear passenger strut that is working (if anyone's looking) to help recoup some of the cost. I hope to have the new ones installed by next weekend. I will let all know how it goes!

I'm excited to be upgrading from my current vehicle, 2003 LS430 with 240k. Although the build quality on the 460, as many have already stated, isn't as good as my 430.

My apologies for the delay, I've been offline for about a week...sick, work garbage, and life in general took every waking second.

The eBay struts I have look OEM, honestly. I've compared my old to new and they look identical. I can't figure out how they do it...could be stolen, I guess, but there are quite a few out there, so that's unlikely.

Even comparing the welding on them...the new ones aren't quite as good, but I can see that being fully acceptable in replacement struts.

The air struts are the same for the 'regular' suspension and the 'sport' suspension. The only difference is how aggressive the computer is in damping. Nice of them to keep it simple, honestly.

Good idea, doing both at the same time, as once one goes, the other is close behind.
