Default Buying a used LS 460 with 300k KM on the clock?

Hi guys!

I am a Jaguar driver currently looking to buy a LS 460 year 2008, with 300.000 Km on the clock.

The car seems OK, it is not scuffed and drives well. Exhaust seems to need some work, and engine and transmission mounts need to be replaced.

Apart from that, the car seems fine. I spoke with the mechanic who worked on the car, and it seems it has no loose bits, and rear shocks were replaced with used ones recently, including some suspension components.

Would you please give me few tips on what could I expect from the car, what to pay attention to, and generally could I buy it without expecting that something will blow into my face? Asking price in EU is about 12.000 EUR, but I think the car would go for 10k.

Thanks!

Hello and welcome. While 300,000 km (roughly 186K miles) isn't too terrible for the car, unless you are stuck in a certain price point, I'd recommend finding an LS with much lower mileage. But if you're stuck on this car, 10K would be a fair price.

Hi , For LS 460 300000 kms on the ODO is not at all huge..My 2007 has already clocked 200000 kms (126000 miles)
just see if there is any Leaks and underneath near the transmission and engine.
LS 460 can easily run till 500000 kms if maintained well.these cars are.japanese and are built like a tank.
You dont have to worry about the ODo..just see if the car ia in good condition. MAINLY LOOK ON THE BELOW POINTS

: Brake pads ,
Conditon of the rotors
Oil leaks near Transmission and engine
Control Arms
just check the timing Chain
see if the car has new battery...because ls 460 consumes lot of battery as therr are lot of electronics .

this car is just a killer on the highways the stability is amazing...and you will love it everytime u drive

Thanks guys! :-)

The car was maintained well. I have uploaded pictures here: https://wsi.li/5ZCKSxnUomGOo2
Please take a look!

Everything on the car seems fine, however the engine mount make the ride shaky, and the hole in the exhaust makes it loud. If I would only have to fix those two, I would buy the car if sold for 10000.

I presume I will have to service it less than my Jag.

Are there any specific issues I would need to check regarding this model? I know that each model year have some specific issues.

are you sure it needs engine and transmission mounts? here in CA, replacing the engine mounts is a $3-5k job as the whole engine needs to lifted off the frame. The transmission mount is far more reasonable. i was looking at a 2010 that needed the engine mounts replaced. I priced around and everybody wanted over $3k. FYI.

Here all three mounts cost about 1000 USD, and work is 150 USD, that is at least how much I have been quoted.

I have requested Lexus quote today, and also indie official quote (above he gave me roughstimate, while parts price are from dealer).

The issue I am having with the car are mostly LPG installation now. It is direct injection engine, if I am not mistaken, and I have been refused by two manufacturers. - 1L of gas is about 1.55 USD here, which is about 4.65 per gallon + we have lower standards.

Will probably know something more about it tomorrow.

For what it would cost to convert to LPG, you'd never recoup the savings in fuel. And that's assuming it could even be done in the first place. I would advise you to abandon that idea completely.

I would recoup the cost in 10-11 months, depending how hard I am driving. LPG conversion is in the range of 2000 EUR.

I did my homework regarding LPG in LS 460; there are two types of engine in the car:
1UR-FE
1UR-FSE

1UR-FE one is single point injection, and is used on models outside of EU and US in general. It is easily possible to put LPG in such car.
1UR-FSE is multipoint (2) injection engine, and it is not possible to install LPG system in it, and that is the engine in "my" car.

I checked with most LPG producers, and they are all on the same bandwagon. I will probably get reply from Prins (best LPG systems) in a day or two, but I don't have my hopes high. This will probably be a no-go, as fuels costs would be prohibitive. Fuel efficiency I could expect is lowest possible for this engine, as I have a lot of runs under 2-6 kilometers, which nonsensical from financial standpoint. I am not sure what I would do, but would probably go for a Jaguar with a big engine, probably an S-Type (as it is relatively small). Interestingly, LS 430 converts to LPG beautifully.
