I bought my LS from Carmax 3 years ago in May. I opted for the $1700 3 year warranty (I feared the failure of the control arms). Haven't had cause to use it until this week. The ML stereo's incredible sound was replaced by click, click, click. A quick search of this forum narrowed the cause to the Mark Levinson amplifier. After verifying coverage with the warranty company, I took it to my local Lexus dealer. A new amp purchased outright was $4600!!! But they have an exchange program that dropped the cost to $1200. After I explained that Maxcare was covering the repair, the advisor said they would check the rest of the car for bad parts. My front control arm bushings were bad! Since they had to order parts, they offered my a loaner, a brand new ES350 [sweet]. All in all, the warranty saved me $3600.
Good deal! My CPO extended warranty has already paid for itself numerous times over. As these cars get newer and more complicated a warranty is a great thing to have.
New amp purchased outright $4600???? That's outrageous. I've never heard of an exchanged program involving warranties but my '10 LS amp was covered under warranty for $1100. I'm glad I purchased my extended warranty because it paid for itself many times over.
It is very clear that the ES is a much smaller car. Steering is numb but the ride is quite comfortable. The tech was really cool but I wouldn't trade my 12 yo LS for a new ES.
