Default Dirty / moldy gas door ... what the hell?
has anybody experienced this before? Never seen anything like this, car has 54k miles

Have you ever washed it? Looks normal to me if you don't clean it,.

Yes, I recently bought a 2007 LS460 and the car looked like new, until I had to gas up. The entire gas filler area was much worse than your photo. It was almost comical how bad it looked.

So are you saying... that if you don't wash your "gas hole" occasionally then it gets all black and moldy?!

Just clean it off with soap and water, then hit it with some wax. This is a non issue.
