Default Potential Buyer of 2008 LS460

I was hoping for some experienced feedback on this 2008 LS460 RWD that I'm looking at. Cosmetically it's perfect. However the display is showing that "...cannot read..." The music still works but you can't see anything. It's NOT the 19-speaker premium version, and the small dealer is going to send it out for repair before I buy it. Also, the heater blows ice cold at idle but works okay when driving. They are going to address this as well.

This being said, is this car worth buying or should I avoid it? It's at 114,600 and it seemed to run and idle fine othwrwise. Here's the dealer's link-

Thanks!

I can't tell from their photos, but I don't think it has "all possible options". It doesn't appear to have the Pre-Collision Package nor the Executive Package.

However, the drip rails look good as do the wheels (mine have peeled terribly from winter salt).

As far as the price, plug the particulars into a couple sites like NADA, Edmunds and KBB and see what you come up with.

Just the fact that it doesn't have the ML Sound System, would be an absolute deal breaker for me. THAT was the best part of my LS ownership. The sound is THAT good. If it were me, I'd quickly be moving on to look for another LS.

MMR on that specific car is $9,475. Expected retail is $13,850. Anything below $11k is a decent deal. Maybe it's just me, but from that picture, it doesn't look like the paint matches from the front passenger fender past the door. Something you could easily tell with a paint meter to see if there's been work done.

NADA shows the attached numbers on this car. I've been shopping but price is good compared to what I'm finding. The base stereo is decent, and the ride seems worth it if I can get another 150k out of the car.

Assuming a favorable service history report on the Lexus Driver's site, I absolutely agree. 2010+ brings a lot of peace of mind.

The 2010 would be a go-to if I had the extra $4k but it's just a little too much in price...unless the dealer gets me a similar payment.

Careful... playing the "Payment Game" is a very expensive proposition long term.... Assuming Prime Credit and 4.5% APR on your loan, with no down payment:

$12k @ 36mo = $356 payment = $850 interest paid
$12k @ 48mo = $273 payment = $1134 interest paid

To reach that $356 payment on $16k you will have to go 48mo and pay $1513 in interest
To reach that $273 payment on $16k you will have to go 60mo and pay $1900 in interest (and likely be upside down when you need to sell it in 36-48mo)

Just some helpful advice on something that some friends of mine have gotten caught up in the past.

Appreciate the advice. I'll be putting some serious cash down as well so payment will be not much of an issue.

Too bad, A little more gets you this pristine LS460 with 19 inch wheel and Ultra rare Comfort plus package. I know the guy personally He'll even throw in the ugly factory 18 inch wheels that have new tires with the deal.

https://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/ct...826842672.html

The thing that sucks about 2010-2012 Ls460 is that 99% of them have cheap rubber arm rests which made me not get one and only consider a 2013+
Also the Mark Levinson system is detuned.

THIS. 1000X this. One of the biggest mistakes anyone can make in buying a car is to buy on payment amount alone.

eh but that’s basically the norm in US and Canada.. no one (almost) buys cars on cash. I seriously think it is a cultural thing.

You know whats funny? If you have asian American or Asian Canadian friends you will find a large percentage of them put down large deposits on their cars and houses or buy them with cash outright. When they do have loans they pay them
off early.

Maintenance history of the vehicle is of the upmost importance. Has it been maintained on regular (5,000 mile(s)) intervals and where/by whom. The car has some miles on it to the point that if it has not been maintained properly things will begin to break down on you. Also look at its history from "accident(s)" perspective and if it has been salvage (flood(s).

yup, true to a point. i paid cash for my 08 last year. i got it for $13500 w/ just over 100k. it has ML sound, auto park & rear reclining heated seats...the paint has some issues (scratches on front & rear bumpers etc) but the interior is decent like this posted car. i don't think it's a good price for $15995 but it's all about how easy it is to find a decent car in your area. it took me a few months to find my car...plenty of scammers out there. had one where the odometer was "rolled back" & one had so many cosmetic issues that i had to walk away after a few minutes of checking it out after an 1hr plane flight...sucks having to look for a flight home afterwards.
