Extended Warranty or Not
So I have a decision - I purchased my 2010 460L about 18 months ago and also purchased from a dealer a Platinum Extended Warranty. The contract was for 48 months and 50,000 miles. I paid 10% down and they were suppose to charge the remaining over 11 months on my credit card. I noticed after the first month that they did not take out the next payment. I called and spoke to my salesman and he told me that sometimes it will take a month or two to catch up but dont worry I called the Zurich the warranty holder and they told me the warranty was in place and all good etc. Forgot all about it. Fast forward 18 months and I got a check from the dealer for my 10% down payment on the contract this week. They told me the policy was cancelled, I guess that they paid Zurich and did not process my card and it took a while for this all to come to light. So apparently they did not process the next 11 payments decided to cancel the policy and get back the remaining unused. The policy cost was $3,200.00 at the time.
I called and spoke to the salesman and he said that they no longer use zurich etc. and they now use fidelity. I can get a new policy for 4 years 48,000 miles (Gold which covers everything except the touch screen GPS and sun roof) for $2,900. I can get the Platinum for $4,800 which covers just about everything. My main areas of concern are the air shocks covered under both the gold or platinum. The car has 65,000 miles on it so a warranty would take it to around 113,000 miles.
I have had zero issues with the car and am planning on keeping for at least 4-5 years. I am on the fence if I should get the warranty or not. Since I have purchased it I came to find out that my coworkers brother worked at a local lexus as a technician up until two years ago. I spoke to him about the air shocks and he said he would not worry about it, that the 460 is one of the most reliable cars and that yes the air shocks do go out occasionally but overall it is fairly low. He attributes the magnification of the shocks because they are pretty expensive to repair.
So if you were me would you purchase one of the extended warranties or would you take that $$$ and put it in the bank emergency fund if you ever need it?

I personally never buy warranties. Think about it. They only pay out probably a quarter of the time, if that. They wouldn’t be in business if they didn’t make money. Now having said that, I’m not afraid to pick up a wrench. If you can’t work on your vehicle when something breaks you might consider buying the warranty.

So roughly $3,000 for 48,000 miles? I mean I wouldn't. Unless the brake actuator is still a problem on the 2010's, and unless you want control arms replaced only with OE parts at a dealer, I don't think it's worth it. You're at a unique mileage point, aside from the control arms there's a good chance you won't be needing major repairs. The air suspension? Maybe, but chances are it'll go right after this hat warranty...now if you had 113,000 miles and could get that deal?? Lol, that could be the sweet spot because that's when those air bags might give out, and maybe a starter or something. Of course that's why warranty companies do this...they aren't in it to lose money.

I'd save the money a rainy day. I have a 2013 with 45k miles and no warranty. But for my M5, I will most likely get an extended warranty before the CPO warranty expires.

My rear right air shock went out at 69k. Rear right side was higher. Every time when I go over speed bump I can hear a thumping sound. Luckily I found a guy on eBay that was selling a whole set for a thousands. He took it off from his car and installed are running kit. His car has around 10k. I bought the air shocks from him and install it on mine. When we took out the old one for my car I press down on it, it doesn't go down all the way like the rest of the other shocks.
