Default Temp rising on highway

Hello. Today I was travelling from one city to another. I was climbing the road on D and suddenly the temp rose a little bit it rose 2 lines above the half way. Is this normal? Or what could it be?

Well if you were ascending a hill and had very hot temperatures, you could see a rise in your coolant temp (especially if the cat is loaded with passengers or other weight). Certainly check your coolant level, but if that is OK, I would just keep an eye on it.

yes, it was a Hill. The temp was around 92-95F and with 5 passengers. Is it normal? Coolant level fine. Climbing hill @ around 75-80mph.

That is surprising that the coolant level is fine yet the car was starting to overheat. Was something obstructing the radiator? We took the LS on a 500-mile road trip last Labor Day with some hill climbing and 90F. The car was loaded with family, full trunk, and four bikes hanging off the back. The temperature gauge never deviated from the usual halfway mark despite an undiagnosed coolant leak at the time. I would take your LS to an independent mechanic just to double-check that everything is normal. If your coolant looks good then maybe there's an issue with the temperature sensor. I am not trying to cause you grief or undue worry, but even with a coolant leak our LS temperature gauge didn't increase. Just want to ensure you and your family are safe in the car. Please keep us posted if you learn anything else about the issue.

Maybe the condenser fans are not working. Has the temp gauge risen again since the last episode?

I have not used the car on an open highway again. Just used it in the city and it was normal.

Shouldn't happen but could happen, in my opinion.

I mean if it was a steep hill, full car, hot day, and A/C on... I can see it happening on an aged coolant system.

I would just get the coolant changed for a piece of mind..

Hi all ,
i have been using the 2007 LS 460 L for last 2 years in Dubai. As you know in summervthe temp here can go up to 120 F.

i remember i was going up a mountain Range in outskirts of Dubai in August. It was around 2 pm in the afternoon.

i was driving up the hill and i have noticed the outside temperature reading as 115 degree F.
suddenly i saw the temperature needle just going one point up and down.the air conditioner was on in full speed.

the car is under full stress..ofcourse i was expecting it. My car is an american spec car imported to dubai. The radiators may not be very strong like gcc spec cars. But still it managed to do well.

Woah 120 degrees!! How is your dashboard and interior trim pieces holding up? It must get a soft a putty in the sun. Do you have a Lexus dealership there?

As best as possible I would try to recreate the previous environment and take it back on the highway and if there's a hilly road try that too.

Though, depending on how long you drove in the city, that stop & go with less cool air flowing towards the radiator should have caused the temps to increase.

If you suspect anything, get the coolant changed/flushed and also replace the thermostat, especially if it hasn't been changed before.
