Default LWB vs SWB ride quality and cabin noise differences

In looking for an LS 460L I have been test driving both and have noticed that even in the same suspensions the LWB rides smoother, maybe because the longer wheelbase is more stable over bumps, but there is more cabin noise also because the cabin is larger. Is this trend similar to what others have noticed or just the small sample size of vehicles I test drove. Does any one else notice these differences in the LWB vs SWB?

I drive an LWB and never compared noise to SWB. I bought for the roominess for my passengers.

Did the LWB you drove have the air suspension? That and the longer wheelbase may account for the smoother ride.

AWD versus RWD may also be a factor in such a comparison.

Yes I noticed the difference in both the air suspension and coils.

You are correct, the longer wheelbase vehicle will ride smoother (all else being identical). I can't imagine a difference in cabin noise, certainly not detectable to human ears. However, there may be some other factors in a specific vehicle that may make it noisier.

The elevated cabin noise you encountered was probably due to a defect that plagued many, but not all, of the early LS460s, LS460Ls and LS600hLs. We have discussed this extensively in this forum. Repairing the defect is usually easy and inexpensive. You will not get any help from Lexus on this issue.

Here are just a few of the links to discussions on this issue, if you have lots of time for reading:

The LS460s, LS460Ls and LS600hLs are exceptionally quiet cars, when all is well, and as quiet or quieter than any mass produced car made anywhere.
