LS460 Disappointed
#31
I have read all your complaints and it's a real shame as these are usually really good cars. I am surprised you did not pick up on most of these things during a test drive before you bought the car? Certainly taking it on the highway would reveal wind noise, and the navigation you could assess right away. The only thing you might not have discovered is the ride because you said you bought it with bad struts but driving any other LS460 would have revealed the ride as you said they are all loaded in Australia. I don't mean to sound rude I just think there may be something wrong with this particular car. I have a non air 2011 LS460L and I don't feel the ride is bad at all. Sure its not the same as a brand new S class but I didn't pay that kind of money and its an 8 year old car. I would get your air struts checked again. I have a non air car but have driven one and there is a noticeable difference. What you described should not be happening.

Sounds like a car with many problem. When you buy used, you have to do the homework and be patient. For the riding comfort, did you test drive it before purchase?
LS is not a perfect car, people here love it because it is refined and reliable at best. If your expectation is at RR level, surely you will feel disappointed.

The silence is...........................
This vehicle which we drive........I feel ..........is with out a doubt one of the most well manufactured of all time.
I have been fortunate enough to buy one of the best examples of this automobile.
I am having a blast enjoying a stock 2012 LS 460.

im not one of these guys that thinks every car I own is "the best car in the world" , I stay very unbiased and forthcoming with the pros and cons , but ive been doing some exploring for the past month and I really have to say that the 07 460L im driving now drives much better then:
-the 2018 rx350 I had for a week (very mediocre vehicle from top to bottom)
-2018 Chevy Tahoe (amazingly cool to look at, huge presence and so much space you could literally live inside of it) but horrible body roll , unrefined and surprisingly "un-sporty" for a brand new "sport" utility vehicle (guzzled gas like a maniac as well)
-2012 Mercedes S550 - only rode in this one for a short time but was not that impressed by the ride quality, maybe because I expected it to be so much better
The only car that blew the 460 away was the 2012 XJL 5.0 supercharged, they have air struts in the rear only I believe and that thing was a blast , I LOVED it

I think we've reached the point that the OP can be narrowed down to either:
1) An individual who purchased a damaged/abused vehicle
2) An individual with wildly unrealistic expectations
3) An outright troll
4) Some combination of the above
My advice would be to sell the car, and consider test driving any future 10yr old vehicle purchases.

I think the next time I buy a ten year old washing machine I'll join a washing machine forum and complain about it.

Before I bought my '12 LS-L, w/air, I first drove an '11, IIRC, S63.
I was coming from an '08 LS-L, also with air, and I really, REALLY wanted to like the AMG. However, it was wound tighter than a $2 watch (if cheap watches were still mechanical). Loud, and even when my '08 defaulted to full-on damping because of a loose connection at a rear strut, it wasn't but 80% the stiffness of the AMG. Yes, having monster power was intoxicating, however, there's no way I'd be able to tolerate a DD which felt like that...and Texas roads are better-than-average (which is sad, 'cause they're not great).
On "COMFORT", the air-ride LS is as close as you're likely to get to a 1973 Coupe DeVille's cushiness in a car made in the past 10 years. I've owned both, and I liked the CDV's ride, once I tightened it up a little bit.
The CC not turning off when tapping the brake pedal points to the brake light senor switch on the linkage under the dash being either disconnected or damaged. Otherwise, it turns off like in every car for the past 60 years.

Coming out of a E39 M5 (building year 2001) and a 530iA Touring (building year 2002) I can't agree with the topic starter.
Bought the Lexus as a family car and it feels as a big step forward, although the mentioned BMW's were the last real good BMW's. Offcourse I also looked at the 750i and 750iL from around 2011, which interior looks more up to date, however the building quality is very bad. It is not the question if the engine goes but when it goes. And if it goes you as customer have to pay 12000 euro and BMW pays the rest.
Driving quality for me the same, although if you want a bit more sporty feeling you have to put the power mode on and sport suspension onin the Lexus. For me that is a bit funny, if I want to drive sporty I don't drive a 2000KG car.
So basicly the topic starter has to do his homework better in my opinion, cause it looks like he bought a car where he has to put money in since it wasn't wel maintained. To compare it wit a Rolls Royce Ghost is offcourse nonse....

I traded my 2006 S320 Mercedes for 2013 LS460, test drove a 2010 Mercedes, as well prior. Can not fault the LS, absolutely awesome machine, did a 1500km round trip to Wellington and back over the weekend and enjoyed every second of the journey.

That's funny, I also have a 2013 C63 AMG & its not even close. The C63 is harsh & bone jarring just like the early year ISFs & M3's, the MCT is jerky, the bucket seats are hard & stiff. The LS460 is like floating on clouds in comparison, your car has some serious issues if it rides anything like those sport sedans..
Agreed
