Ok I am confused, I thought my 07 LS had a chain instead of a belt.
So how often is this belt supposed to be adjusted and/or replaced?
thanks!

Correct, your car has a timing chain. They usually dont need to be replaced. The serpentine belt Is the rubber belt that you see around the pulleys that drives the accessories, etc. That belt I usually change when its starts to feel little less flexible and or you start to see it fraying.

As mentioned I usually just inspect the belt at each oil change. How many miles are on your car? It cant hurt to change it if it's been 50,000 miles or something along those lines for piece of mind but I've honestly gone 100,000 miles on the same belt in tbe past.

If you have belt squealing at start up then your belt may be worn, but I have found a weak belt tensioner may be the issue. The original one will weaken after 7 years. I changed out 2 belts myself to get rid of the noise but the tensioner was the culprit all along.

Very TRUE! I usually change my tensioner and any associated pulleys when I change my belt on all of my cars... Doesn’t cost too much more and it eliminates a future problem. Keep in mind these tensioners lose spring tension over time and the pulleys have bearings so they get a "work out" every time you run your engine.

The 1UR-series engine uses a serpentine accessory belt and a timing chain instead of a timing belt.
The earlier 1UZ-FE used both a serpentine accessory belt and a timing belt.
The timing belt used in the 1UZ-FE was an excellent HSN design that in my opinion is way better than a timing chain. I can easily change that timing belt, but the timing chain is noisy and hard to replace at high miles.
quick edit: serpentine belt ALWAYS refers to accessory drive. Accessory meaning things like A/C, PS, alternator, etc. They don't use the word serpentine belt to refer to camshaft timing and phasing. And serpentine belt is used for a certain type of belt used to that end - because before your time, they used a bunch of individual accessory belts to do what a serpentine belt does now. Look at the crank pulley of an old motor like the 7M-GE. It has a lot of notches for a lot of belts. Modern engines use a single set of notches to use only one belt to run a whole shxxton of accessories at once. That's technology for ya
